cities are flooded with electronics stores
Almost every commercial property in my cities is an electronics store.
Anybody know why?

Oh good. Most towns I go to are lucky to have 1! I live in the burbs of my home town, and I have to travel about 14km to the nearest decent electronics store.
Sure, we have smaller, mixed business shops that sell TVs, and a few computers, and some software, and CDs, and cameras and such, but for a dedicated electronics store, see above.

Have you checked your production tab as I have noticed if you have low mining / farming software and electronics takes over commercial zones.

Increase your taxes on Electronics and let the simulation run a while and the stores will spawn into something else as they adjust and seek out more profitable things to sell.

Town 1: All industries were built, AG about 2 each. I cut back because they were half-employed.
Town 2: couple of AG each, one coal, one metals. Again, employment rate began to drop, so stopped building industry.

Both towns grew office quickly, so office and electronics stores were my main incomes.
I didn't really go through industry closely, they seemed mostly based off my AG and mining.

I have in both simulations.
12%.
plus a blanket 12% on all office space to try to increase my commerce, but I still mostly get new electronics boutiques.

12% but is that higher then all other goods in the game? In my city it's mostly Food! Maybe each city just gets a random commodity that they happen to like, but anyway, once I increased my Food taxes 4-5% higher then everything else then Food (as in Food related Industry & Commercial buildings) went down quite a bit and were replaced with other things.

It should work.

Everything else was 10%. I'll raise it more and more to see how it works.
My towns I began last night also were electronics-heavy. No idea why. I didn't even build actual industrial for a while; just farms. Its weird.

5 stores side by side all electronic lol... tried deleting them and electronic store names pop up... tried deleting again and the new builds wont even tell me the name of the store till its built... all electronic haha...

increased taxes to 15%, still mostly electronics stores. (eye roll)
Is it because the cims are miserable and desire electronics for fun?

Shouldn't think so.
