Traffic is killing my city!!!
Cities Skylines 2 was crated with idea to be a city building game but it become traffic managment nightmare! Since Economy 2.0 was relised I mostly dealed with traffic and I think that there is no solution for my city. The city I was building for monts, grew from 187k to 470k people realy fast and I still have 2000-10000+ preople coming to city monthly. I read many comments about this issue and people usually suggest big highway intersections and "better" road managment. I am realy disapointed with traffic AI, it seems like everybody is going to the same place. I dont understand why Paradox crated separated European and American type of building if you have to build an American style city with highways and giant intersections in the middle of city? I am from Europe and I wanted to create Europen city! Our cities are denser, we have small streets with mixed use w2w buildings and highway ringroad that goes around the city with many exits. I tried to build city like that and now I have completely blocked and clogged city, all the traffic comes from one direction while there is no one on the other side of the city, roundabouts are useless, buses can't go thru, only few thousands use trains and airport and from some reason the number of people that use metro is also going down!!! In CS! everybody had a problem with extreme cargo truck traffic in industry zones but this is even worse! I am a big fan of CS1 and CS2 but this game got even more irritating!

Traffic in Europe sucks, and now you know why first hand. Also american traffic sucks. to be fair traffic sucks. Plan around your city sometimes

Try using TM:PE. With this program, you can make your traffic go the way you want it to go. You can control intersections by indicating which lanes go in which direction, by controlling the traffic lights and how long they stay on red or green. You can stop traffic from backing up on right turns. You can use the program to require cars turning left to go into the inside lane instead of the outside lane. You can require cars exiting highways to only turn right instead of left and right. You can stop cars from entering highways and immediately moving to the far left lane. So many traffic issues you can solve.

There is no TM:PE in CS2 ;)

Well, I have at the moment a city of more than 600k. And a rate of almost 5k/hour moving in, if I build too much. That's why I changed from building new residentals to restructuring primarily public services and public transport.

Most of the incoming traffic from other cities is indeed people who move in. With that high rate it's obvious that they cause jams, there is no way to let them spread around fast enough-

There is a trick to lower the incoming traffic, it's actually kind of cheating:
At the map border reduce incoming highways to one-lane highways, this limits the volume of incoming people a lot and can reduce most of the incoming traffic jams.

Or to one way basic roads, this reduces the speed with which they rush into your city.
Reducing those traffic jams has also another side effect - it also reduces CPU load, so the game runs slightly faster.

Well, a simple explanation is that if there is as much traffic as people are seeing, there will be a reason for it being so. 470k people need to be able to get from home, to jobs, to school, to shops, to hospitals, etc, and back again. If you rely in the automobile for all your "people movement" needs, you are going to get horrendous traffic jams. That's why city planners are very aware of the volume of traffic that they are going to see, and plan accordingly.
Part of the answer is in road design, and layout, and part of the answer is by providing adequate and sensible public transport networks.
And don't clog your roads further with buses, and trams, and suchlike. Go underground with them, especially where there is a potential bottleneck. Especially trams, which, won't be followed by other traffic into tunnels without roads.
And don't forget your subways. These are ideal mass transit vehicles, between residential, commercial and industrial areas. If you fine that not enough are taking up public transport, lower the fares, or even make them free in some circumstances.
