I only bought and played the first game. Obviously the graphics in Skylines are vastly superior, but I think the best city builder I've ever played was SimCity 4. Skylines always lacked the whimsy and fun and engagement that SimCity gave me. The only reason it seemed great it is because SimCity 5, or should I say, "SimCity" 5, was abysmal.

Three of the reasons I lost interest in the game:

No American architecture
Ridiculous tiny farms
Saved cities get corrupted constantly

I really don't give a crap about managing individual people. That doesn't belong in a city sim. Ditch that garbage and give us mechanics and fun.

i still think ANNO 1800 still the top of my list, although u can argue it more of production line more than building game

but to be honest this game is nowhere near unquestionable best city building game lmao
Written by someone who only plays city-building games to review them.

I have pondered over buying ANNO but ironically more from the business strategy angle. I enjoy business strategy in railroading games but have found them lacking as well. Rails Across America (yeah no one has heard of it) was great but I don't want to have to fire up my old XP machine to play it, plus I no longer find it challenging.

well, if it is the FIRST and only city builder they ever played, then this might be even true.
But probably it's a delayed april fools' joke..

It's on steam, but I probably wouldn't. Best experience would likely be as you say, an xp machine.

It's my favorite so far. Obviously their workshop will be nice once assets are there, but love the huge maps. Performance is pretty good on my computer so far. CS1 maps are small.

I absolutely hate the atmosphere and artistic quality of CS Series though and actually vastly prefer SC4 art over it.

For such a mess at the start it's amazing they even bothered to keep the lights on.

In spite of the extreme hate they kept at it until a release ready game was offered. For that alone they have my respect.

The game is still a hollow Lanscape but at least everything in it now functions quite well.

They arent doing it for free! They have to. Its their job. If they walk away then their more than likely never going to work in the industry again.

In spite of the extreme hate?

Jesus man, thats taking it a bit far. Extreme hate is what Hitler had for the Jews or the Ku Klux Klan for their coloured fellow Americans. You cant put people that voice their opinion over a steam or paradox thread into the same category. Customers got angry thats all, and for good reason.

I can never respect anyone that has done what they did. Sold a half finished game, blamed it on the customers and took no responsibility what so ever.

I installed it on my PC to try it out after the update and its a little better performance wise but still dog sh#t.
I mean you can max out money in mere hours and then there is nothing to do but paint.
Graphically it has gone backwards and when I tried the mods I just kept getting system failure and could not get them to run.

Theres been one update in how many months? Nothing has changed magically overnight and anyone who says differently has their own agenda to fulfil.

I got to about 70k population and it was running like I was playing Halo on dial up internet.
I gave up because Ive put far to many hours into trying to get something out of it, and its not worth another shred of my time.

Maybe if they put out a big update regarding it actually being a simulation and not just turning it into a plop and drop low budget indie game. I might come back.

Personally I cant see it tho, and I think they are just focusing on the console release for one last cash grab. Then the lights will go out!

Im now just waiting for manor lords instead of wishing for something that will never come.

Simcity 4 is still king for me.

Thanks I had no idea. I had looked for it but not since January. Seems like they should offer a little more for those of us who bought it back in the day.

That's about right. Part of the fun of SimCity was tweaking and seeing what would grow. Too much plopping in this game.

Agreed no game in the last 20 years has come close to touching the throne of SimCity 4. The new camera mod is pretty amazing just came out last week.
