It looks, feels, runs and out performs its successor in every department. It also has mod support, loads more content and the DLC is a fraction of the cost of steam on CD-keys website. I got all the missing content for £12. Having fun again playing cities skylines and not have to look at graphics straight from the 80s commodore 64. If you are going to purchase it, I would buy from CD-keys as it is only £23 but it is still not worth it!
This video basically sums up why:

The fact I can actually play the vanilla and not desperately feel the need for mods to spice the game up is nice unlike how Cities Skylines 1 felt. But mods are still welcoming and necessary for extra tools and improvements as the Devs are just as slow from the first game.
But the biggest takeaway for me to like this game is that I play it in Sandbox mode more than worry about the actual simulation. In this aspect knowing how broken or easy it is, no, don't get it.
If you play it purely in a sandbox way, you may like it, but the game is really a few steps forward but multiple steps back. The game overall was just released too early and feels restrictive currently unlike Cities Skylines 1.
I'd say trust your gut feeling, this game is really at a goofy state right now but can find enjoyment out of it.
I recently tried to go back to Cities Skylines 1, but it's hard to currently unless I break if these devs don't do anything anytime soon.
There is just so much to choose from to spend my time on.
Sounds like you need more mods and great custom assets. Vanilla CS1 and CS2 both get boring almost immediately because of lack of content and variety
On the other hand CS1 is better for the asset and modding support. But beliving within a year time CS2 will also put those in pocket.
I do miss some mods for CS1 that aren't yet available for CS2 but TBH I haven't played CS1 at all since gambling my 8 year old system would run it and buying CS2. I'm up to around 80,000 pop and no major slowdowns yet and tbh CS1 was struggling on my system at around this population level.
I do wish they'd fix the bus stop naming issue not using my custom-named roads (which also affects post boxes, tram stops, etc) as it's a pain to keep manually renaming them all, but haven't knowingly experienced much else in the way of bugs. The budget is in need of some balancing as I always have about 50 times more income than expense even with near-zero taxes but the budget was all over the place in CS1 as well so I've basically just been ignoring anything money-related in both games as you never run out.
But I don't even care about it anymore now, thanks to the CS2 blunder and now flounder. It really opened my eyes to their lack of skills in game developing. CS1 would be nothing without the free labor supplied by the modders. I can only hope they are smart enough not to pull CO through another scam. There's nothing attractive about this company riding on someone else's skills and talent.
Both games are trash now.
