Why not delay - Unity Fee Changes?
Did the unity Fee Changes that are scheduled to take place on January 1st prevent a delay if performance is a concern? Why not delay and ensure a smooth launch? There's no such thing as expectation management for the gaming community. If you put out crap, you're going to end up review bombed.

I think that's a good assumption. And honestly, a good choice by the devs. They can patch stuff later. If Unity's new monetization would kill the game, it's better for them to release now and patch later rather then release later and the game dies because of Unity's pricing.

Why should they? I hope the better PC builds (e.g. suited for MSFS in ULTRA on 4k) can still run it nicely.. I would not like to wait.

But for very long time that fee change was supposed to be retroactive and while we saw complaints from other game developers, neither Paradox nor Colossal Order was amongst them. So, I don't buy this worry. Besides, will these new fee policy not apply to console versions, since they were delayed to next year? I am not sure and to be honest, right now, I am very confused when it comes to Unity fees, TBH.

BTW they fired Riccitiello, but he made Millions at EA & Unity anyway.
He probably was "kindly" asked to quit.

you're overthinking it.

they're releasing it because they want the money now.

they couldn't keep a lid on the bad performance, it was becoming way too obvious that the game runs like a dog, and they wouldn't be able to stop people finding out about the lack of steam workshop.

they probably also know there's not much more they can do to "optimise" the game, so delaying would be pointless.

remember that the console delay is likely because performance is so bad it won't pass the certifications. there are no certifications on PC, you can release any old heap of crap.

Because you could delay a game indefinitely and it would still never be ready for release.
At somepoint you just have to suck it up and release, because the bag of money you had for developing the game is empty.

Deal with it.

Also this issue of "performance" they are talking about has more to do with PC gamers running toasters. You'd be surprised how old some peoples gaming setups are or poorly optimized. When game like this releases (aka city builder) it tends to get a wider audience and that audience includes people running toaster pcs who will complain the game runs like crap on their toaster and blame the developer.

That said they did say "bigger" performance issues have specific "toggles" and will advice on release which features/settings create larger performance hits (like 4K ultra settings lol)

Yeah, I'm hoping that it runs well for 3000 series NVIDIA GPU's/AMD equivalents and the higher-end 12th/13th gen Intel (12900k/13900k) and the AM4 AMD processors (5800/5800x3d).

The problem with Unity3d is that it is a very complex and heavy engine. I believe that optimisation can be done, but I also believe that there is 1 or more underlying issues with the execution code within Unity3d. Possibly causing a OS kernel or even FPU thrashing within the processor(s) and GPU(s).
