If you are suspecting Skyve or a mod is the problem go into your AppData folder and move your save folder out of it.

Then, Go back to AppData and delete the entire Cities Skylines II folder.
DO NOT delete any other folders in AppData.

Now, restart the game it should run fine until you find the mod that caused it.
Put your save folder back in AppData and try to diagnose which mod caused the hang.

Simply deleting the .cache folder is not a permanent fix as this will rebuild all the mods and correct the one that caused the cache error

since when does the launcher have a progress bar ?

I guess you meant the loading screen (which also does not have a progress bar, only those 3 circles)
However, the loading screen can "freeze" for a few minutes because that's the time when the game loads and initializes assets, dlcs...

The slower the disk and the more mods/assets it loads the longer it takes.

In case you have installed all region packs with their 30-40 GB of assets, you might get an idea why it takes so long.
Even on my M2 SSD (without any PCIe lane sharing) it takes more than 2 minutes until the "freeze" ends.
With lane sharing it would be already almost 5 minutes... on Sata SSDs or Sata spinning drives most likely even longer. And on external USB 2.0 disks... well, good luck in getting the loading screen unfrozen on the same day.

I wish CO would change the loading game screen in a way that we could see what it's actually doing and not to look like crashed/frozen.

i was referring to the circles, the last circle would get stuck at the last point and it would just top, i waited for 34 minutes at one point to make sure it wasnt just frozen, luckily i was able to fix it using kudos' advice and everything is chill now
I also have this problem atm. Will give this fix a try
I've had a similar experience. This only happened to me when I played with mods, especially when I first started the game with mods. Just wait and drink some coffee. I'd recommend just waiting 10 minutes. If you reload too many mods, it just takes a while. It's best to start the game once every 5-10 mods.

I've been waiting for 20 minutes and i'm still not in de main menu. This is ridiculous.

I've not played the game in months. Just updated the game and launcher and the game is just a black screen on startup. A bit depressing.

I just uninstalled and trying to reinstall. Came on the discussion forum and seen all these problems. What were the chances? After not playing in months and hoping things were better. Oh well, maybe after the reinstall.

yeah this game really sucks right now, after all the updates it honestly keeps getting worse with loading times, freezing in game, and crashing on you, and even though my pc's specs are above are quite a bit above par for whats needed, it isnt worth it anymore
