Become streamer to get your money back, or try reinstalling windoof.

Good luck.
Get rid of all your save games.
Get rid of all your playsets
Get rid of all your mods
In fact, these canned instructions will probably lead you through a clean install - they work for me - every time I've had to reinstall the game /:

1. Delete your playset(s), either with PDX Mods or Skyve (Skyve IS a PDX Mod, but if you can't find PDX Mods for this game, you can google Skyve and download it from the web, install it, and you'll be able to delete your playsets (and their contents.
2. Start the game again, with no mods. If it loads, go to 8 (below)
3. Delete the game
4. Delete your playset(s) using either PDX Mods or SKYVE)
5. Delete the following 3 directories:
%UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order
%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Paradox Interactive
%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Paradox Interactive
…..D:/Program Files/CS2/steamapps/common/
6. Reinstall the game
7. Run Vanilla (no Mods)
8. If OK, Add back the Mods you use a few at a time (only those identified as OK), and test, to see if any of then crash your game. If any do, delete them and add them back in smaller batches until you've identified the culprit(s)

And that should put you back in business

If it occured all of a sudden from one day to another, it sounds like an overheating, memory, mod or external problem to me - but not one of the base game.

As usual the relevant informations are missing:
- are you playing modded or unmodded ?
- CPU, RAM ?
- GPU, VRAM ?
- CPU/GPU temperatures before and during game play ?
- Disk Space available ? I assume enough, since you seem to have had enough temporary space to re-install the game. But who knows....
- Any background processes which got updated recently ?
- crash to desktop without error or with error (in the logfiles) ?

Sometimes a file in your CS2 profile folder is broken. When re-installing the game, most of the files of the profile folder stay untouched, remain the same - and could cause problems.

And don't follow john.glossops instructions regarding the save files. It's rare that the save files would be the culprit - and since you have the problem even with new game sessions it's definitely not your old save files.

In case it's the profile directory:
- Backup %AppData%\..\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II\Saves
- delete %AppData%\..\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II
- to make things sure, let steam check again for errors
- start the game, choose play with no code mods, start a new city - and check if the problem still persists.
* If the problem is gone, copy your backuped saves folder back to its original location
Then try playing again.
* If the problem still persists, it's neither the game nor your profile. It's something different.

What, every time you have a issue, you are going to fully start over again with
deleting everything, and all work.

Your instructions are error, wasteful and a horrendous time failure -

You never have to reinstall the game, even after a update. Only if the install (verify coding) is corrupt.

You never have to delete your saved city in CSII or CSI, even after a update. Only if the save is corrupt.

Like a old Gothic tale,
I'd give you the simple few step freeze answer, as I gave in CSI.
It is basically the same thing.
Apparently something, over time, too many misdirects published by you, then not even later corrected to all or seen by you, has gotten on my last nerve.

Well, a lot of rhetoric, mostly scurrilous, but an incredible absence of the implied solution(s) to resolve this issue.
I know that the way I'm using is pretty severs, but it does have the advantage that it works. Your "solution", which you've failed to identify, can't possibly work for us, because you haven't revealed it. What's the matter - you heap on the invective, and when it comes to the point where you should be telling us a better way of defeating these endless crashes, you suddenly clam up - as if you know that your "magic bullet" is so much horse manure, but you can't stop yourself from trying to discourage someone who has found a way to keep playing, can you?

This is not the days of DOS or Win 3.1, these extra steps nowadays is laughable. The fact this is needed should show anyone how dreadful it is to even attempt at playing this game.

"magic bullet", found a way to keep playing

Is it wrong to withhold answers, while many are learning the back system for their own future gain, while in paced production time, even if answers are known by many and do not post it?

No. It is not. This is how I seized the system by trial and error, painstakingly learning the application, fully gaining on the environment.
Major Kudos has started breaking towards the complex back simplicity lately.

It is never good for a mind to be just given a answer because it is hard to figure, not really getting into it. Answered upon demand. No real gain.
Here is a major hint for you John -
After updates from CO to a new state, first clean up your files and settings (and settings from PDX site to your own in-game settings), current SKYVE settings, clear out app folder, then load a saved city.

Once loaded, freeze it, then work the second level issue.
Then...

In time, you will know.
No matter the many updates coming, new states, new mod combos.
Stress over, never again, never a lost city worked so hard and long to attain.

One one entity can fix this game, the devs.
And it should be pretty obvious to anybody at this point that the CAN NOT.
If it's due to lack of capbility or lack of will, IDK, but I would assume the first.

For context, not a single dev of cs1 worked on cs2, and they opted to use a sub par game engine for cs2 instead of using an engine that would be able to handle the massive amounts of calculations this game needs.

At this point, the most humane thing and in the name of solidarity towards other gamers, leave a bad review so others don't waste money on this.
Sux, but it is what it is.
They will never be able to fix this game.

And no, mods is not a "sollution".
1. You can no longer even make valid bug reports and support for the game goes out the window.
2. MODS IS NOT A METHOD TO FIX A BROKEN GAME FROM A AAA STUDIO!!!

I'm running a RTX 4080 super with an i7 10300k 32g ram and liquid cooled windows 11. No mods. No errors the game just freezes then close to steam window. I don't think its on my side with what I'm running. It also crashes all the time.

I710300k with 32g ram liquid cooled RTX 4080 super no mods and no errors code just drop to steam screen no updates that I'm aware of unless steam did an auto update.

All this drama when your CPU is low.
Chip more suitable for mid size city in CSI.
You are not going to go anywhere with this back and forth.

Should you upgrade for a program? Up to you. I wouldn't. Wait it out for next 24 months for a great deal 14+ core CPU, 64+ gb board, decent rig shell. Keep your great GPU, You will also see then where CSII is by then, before a purchase. All makes complete sense for CSII.
Meanwhile, play CSI. It's chock full of good mods and content.

Dude the i7 10300k chip is still ranked top 5 best chips on the market. I'm running new games at max and it has no issues at all. This chip is not causing the crash when iv had over 120hrs of gaming on this game before the crashes started. Just one day out of the blue it started crashing. .y tower out proforms my 3k msi i9 laptop without comparison. My processor is not the issue. It's soemthing in the game. Looking for cures to the corrupt game.
