[FIXED] Game crashes to desktop on loading screen without error message
Whats happening:
- After the last patch I was able to play for a while, but on the next day, the game won't load and it crashes to desktop in the loading screen.
- I only have the official DLCs and official city packs installed, no other mod.
- There are no error messages in any of the log files.

What have I already tried:
- Restarting computer
- Updating GPU drivers
- Repairing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
- Verifying game files on Steam

Is anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone found a fix?

Specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3.70GHz
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB
- RAM: 32GB
- System: Windows 10 64-bit operating system

EDIT
Thanks for all your input, the peanut butter on CPU didn't work, however I found a fix in another post:

Here's a fix I found. Not sure what it's going to mess up but got me into the game at least

in your AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II folder, delete the folder called .pdxsdk
in your AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II\.cache\Mods folder, delete the folder called playsets_metadata and the file called PlaysetSettings
Try game again"

I am once more able to find a new way to crash this game, thanks!

There are no official city packs, only the region packs are official.
Just in case you really meant city packs: everything else which is not a region pack, is not official - and could be the root of your problem.

That's what I would have suggested as well.
Since you seem to have no code mods installed, my other suggestion to delete the .cache folder, where mods are usually located, is useless here.

Specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3.70GHz
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB
- RAM: 32GB
- System: Windows 10 64-bit operating system
nothing unusual as well, this configuration should definitely be running.

I wish you would have said Win 11 24h2 is your operating system, that would make things easier. https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/game-crashing-after-windows-11-24h2-update.1718749/

The only four suggestion I have at this point is:
- try to start the game (Cities2.exe) directly, without launcher
it's located in <whereever you installed CS2>\steamapps\common\Cities Skylines II\
When the game crashs that early it could be a problem with the launcher...

- install Skyve (manually),
go to your playset, change at the launch settings tab your log level to debug or trace, then try again (start from Skyve).
And then check the logfiles again (or the logs Skyve shows)
Or start the game via Skyve in safe mode . and check later the logfiles again.

This might not directly help with your crashs, but in this case the game is logging way more issues.

- try to disable your antivirus while you are playing the game (not recommended, because you might forget to reactivate it), maybe this helps, maybe not

- create a new windows user profile and try to start the game with that new user.

guys it works, check Skyve, i logged in with paradox acc into Skyve, and in tools section clicked "Reload all data" or something like that, also before that i removed playset to be sure, and finally no crash at intro! :D

For myself, I'm having the same issue, but the final crash prior was a hard crash that crashed my PC. Now skyve is logged out of paradox, not sure why. And crash on startup, with or without code mods on the steam option, safe mode on skyve, no matter what, crash everytime. I can't turn off the mode playset on Skyve as my account is no longer connected. Any ideas?
It can be fixed by spreading some peanut butter on your GPU. At least that's how I think Colossal is patching their game, bwaha
