No lie. My game didn't even last a minute. It loaded my last save and crashed within a few seconds.
But it updates several files throughout your already existing 60 GB installation.
I understand that is how patches normally work, but not in this case. I had almost 50Gb of storage available, which surprised me that I was even that low - but it would not allow me to resume the download until I had enough free space. Once I freed up some space, it proceeded to download a full 60Gb of data. But the crash issue is not persistent. I just ran it again without issue.
It's just how the game is packaged. Fewer, large database files with lots of data. So Steam has to make a backup of each one, patch in the differences, compare the checksum for any errors, then finally delete the backups when it's confirmed everything was done correctly.
This is how patches have worked since before the internet.
And if you already started with your city on a map, any change made on this map would not change anything for your city.
