Assets in CS2. Did I get it wrong?
I have for months read here, on Discord, Reddit, and other forums that when the Asset maker is ready then anything that the "community" make, as in CS1; building, vehicles, props etc will remain free for downloading. But, the first Assets we get are NOT. They are "content creator packs" and are being sold to us. So, is this whats going to happen now, every Asset we download will be chargeable?

No, Content Creator Packs are 3rd party developed packs considered of sufficient value to be sold. What happens to DLCs is in the lap of the gods, or the CEO's of CO and PDX, but as DLCs were paid content for CS1, I imagine that it will remain as such with CS2 when they are able to develop and release any more DLCs.
Presumably, other user created "Assets" will be treated as they were in CS1 - and I understand that was as free addons.

No, that's not the general idea. The asset editor would allow everyone (including some of the creators who's stuff was included in the CCP, but all other custom content would be free as it was in CS1. CS1 was the same way.

What about DLC's? Will they still cost?

Probably. Most DLC is not free unless it's explicitly called free dlc
