Abandoned houses?
There are no reasons given to why they become abandoned so don't know how to rectify it.
My taxation is low (no more than 11%) so that rules that out. Anything else?

Zone higher density or cut services.

Usually they show an icon above them for a while before becoming abandoned. But once abandoned I don't think there's a way to see it.
In all my cases though it's the usual "high rent" complaint. Especially in my so-called "low-rent apartments".

But... it's not as bad as SC4 when everything would be "Abandoned due to long commute" despite loads of jobs being available on the same street.

I don't think CSL1, Cities XL, etc had abandoned buildings at all, so it's nice to see it's return I guess. But regardless of whether the high rent mechanic is working as intended or not you'd think the "low rent apartments" zoning would be exempt from it, instead of suffering from the problem more than any other zoning type!

Low rent is just low rent because of the amount of households that get crammed into a building. The land value and rent can still go up with a lot of services coverage.

With the high rent one, what I usually do is replace that area with medium or high density housing.

I've tried that but they just crop up somewhere else on the map soon afterwards. I suppose it is something that cannot be stopped permanently and it is not a sign that I am doing something wrong. I started this thread to find out if I was.

Yeah it's not something you are doing wrong. You don't have to do anything about it either.

For me they often say -xx small homes.
I'm still trying to figure out what that means.
But you can see what the problem was before you completely abandon the building.
If only positive things appear, then the land value is often too high

It means living space for the household is too small for the number of residents in the household.

I see that and sometimes its hard to rectify. We cant build them bigger, thats the point of small cheap rent apartments. Its the biggest complaint on these properties so I rarely use them now

Yeah they have to move out on their own, usually to medium or low density residential which they can't do usually without at least well educated or highly educated income earner in the household.

Too much of the people can be another reason.
If you play high density, level 2 to level 4,5 floods your city with new people. I went from 30k to 50k out of the blue.
That's my case, im deleting them and at their spot creating new services, tiny bit of commerce. And schools ofc.

I've had abandoned houses where the happiness level is all green. I guess they just die or leave to go somewhere else.
AchoKaracho Nov 17, 2023 @ 11:42pm
The houses that are abandoned in my area, where everything is green and there isn't a high rent sign hanging over them, are the ones that always have something to complain about.
I saw some of them in a tent at the sports field afterwards :P
