Pedestrians and traffic don't really follow the rules
This has been causing a headache in my city. I ban cars from turning left, but they still keep doing it. Same deal with crosswalks. Sometimes they start pulling U-turns in the middle of the avenue or use the parking lot to flip around.

Any tips or fixes for this? The game's running well after the update, but this issue is killing my gaming vibe with the crazy traffic

You’re probably not left clicking hard enough.

Don't put parking lots near busy intersections. Or intersections at all. That is just a mess. CO added Ai behaviour that would be willing to break transit rules. Unfortunately, it seems like 97 outta 100 sims have this behaviour.

I added city vehicle turn arounds to my highways for maintenance/police/whatnot and set them as no turns as well and traffic jams right into these city worker only turns.

My favorite is how I took pedestrian crossings off of my highway to inner city connections and there are hordes of people just standing around on the corner like they were waiting for a bus in CS1.

It seems like both cars and pedestrians will do what they had already planned to do before you made whatever change you made. So you need to wait a little bit to clear out whatever was already spawned when you made the change.

That said, there will always be some people who break the rules. I think this is intentional, as it is totally realistic.

I have found this to be mostly true. There will still be some people who just dont care and will cross where they want. Seems accurate. But definitely takes a while for changes to register.

I noticed those that cross a street without a crossing know that they are jaywalking... they start to run after a couple steps on the road.
(that's after some time, those that follow their old path directly after removing the crossing will walk)

so this clearly looks like a feature to me, not like a bug.

I agree that on big roundabouts jaywalkers are a problem... maybe only allowing that feature on small roads may help... or tying jaywalking chance to current traffic% on that segment so they only do it when traffic volume is low.
Im pretty sure cims breaking laws is direcrly related to their education level.

You know the ability to change the timing of traffic lights would fix a lot of this crap i feel like.

jaywalking is actually a feature. (confirmed in the forum)
I've seen people running across the street in even the smallest towns.
So not where I was a crosswalk away but in the middle of the street.

The fact that cars drive through the parking spaces even though they don't want to park there is a bug

I got ! I had suspected this jaywalking from the Sims.

For example, 100 cars turned right before the ban, after applying it, only a few turned. Like the reckless ones.

Now that this mechanic has been clarified, I will think more carefully about the prohibitions and provide more alternatives.

It would be nice to have some option to adjust this, for example, fines, cameras, etc.

Thanks for everyone <3

i think the cars that already choose this path will still turn left/right u have to wait for new cars to spawn that obey traffic rules

Cars in this game make decisions on the fly. They are all running their own, individual ai. There is no one defined route, cars make decisions on the fly based on traffic. Peds are the same.

If you go to dev tools, you can see the cars ai in action.

Nope, I always put a left-turn ban right away when building roads.
Hours later, I still have a lot of traffic either turning left or doing a U-turn.
So unless those cars planned to do so 10 hours ago, I highly doubt the theory that only cars that had a route planned beforehand continue to ignore the rules.

Also, isn't the traffic programmed to choose the shortest (in time) route now?
So the cars should be able to change their route on the spot once a rule is changed.

Well, not that their ability to choose the shortest route works anyway, I've seen cars exiting the highway, clogging the ramps, using the roundabout, going a completely empty road to turn a road, going back to the roundabout and back to the highway...

With 100% of the traffic actually ignoring the main highway lanes.

What doesn't help the traffic is the ai hasn't improved. They don't find the fast route, they find the most direct. I had a pretty much empty highway only to realised they'd rather sit in endless traffic to cross through my already busy city.

I would really like the CS1 traffic ui. Clicking a car and seeing where it goes can really help. This new ui just doesn't help well with looking at traffic.
