Messing around with climate configurations
I've started playing with the map editor, and I'd like to try working on some cities based on real life ones. So of course I've started looking for real climate info too.

But I'm having some hard time trying to "translate" some real life info into game. I started comparing San Francisco with the game settings on TemperateSanFranciscoClimate, as it's the only one in game named after a real city. But even the temperatures aren't matching, or at least I dunno how values were obtained.

For example, winter is configured as 7.332 to 8.138 °C, and deviation is 3.011 to 2.640 °C. But the min and max averages for the related months in real life are 8.3 - 8.1 - 8.8 - 9.4 and 14.4 - 14.3 - 15.8 - 16.7 (using wikipedia as source here). If temperatures aren't matching, I didn't even try to understand how cloudness and precipitation were calculated...

TL;DR Does anybody have an idea how the in-game info was obtained or calculated?

(I'm aware not everything is working as the editor is still in beta, but I'd like at least to have a more realistic approach for when it's finally working)

Thanks in advance!

I don't have the answer to your question but I hope you know about the latest climate bug. Before the last patch, you could choose the climate but it wasn't saved into your map. Now it's different: it's saved but if you choose your own settings instead of a prefab, then nobody will be able to load your map.

Oh my... 😅

Yeah that wouldn't be really an issue at the moment, as I'm only doing this for myself, not planning to publish it yet. But I'm still interested how these values were obtained.

Maybe a little deviation from my own question, but as you mentioned the new bug, is it safe to change only latitude and longitude (even if they don't change anything related to sun)?

I don't know, I only know what Cord said on the map makers discord:

There is a known bug at the moment and you cannot use custom climates. You have to use the premade ones otherwise your game will not work for anyone else
among other bugs with the map editor introduced in the last patch

My advice is to ask about it on this map makers discord, a great place for anyone interested in maps. You'll find Sidai, Mr. miyagi, uncle ron etc., all the great map makers. I don't know how to link a discord channel here but you'll find a direct link on this page (the latest map from uncle ron): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3359588682
Thanks for giving me a direction! I'll look for these users' pages. Maybe I'll keep myself on terraforming fictional maps meanwhile.
