What was the idea behind not supporting Steam Workshop?
Just curious how such a stupid decision could be made.

Was it just to spite players?
Has it something to do with piracy?
Are they hoping to magically create what every giant publisher has tried and failed, to create a popular alternative to Steam?

I think it had something to do with having one place that both PCs and consoles could get mods from. That is a moot point now though.

Wow, cry some more. This game doesn't just exist on Steam, and it's pretty obvious it'll make its way to Epic Games and GoG eventually. Having a mod downloader that isn't tied to Steam is good.

"spite players" lmao

If I'm on steam and my game is on steam, why do I give a ♥♥♥♥ about people on other platforms?

To sell on consoles, period.
ıt is a marketing strategy and I believe they calculated the profits better than you or I before making this decision. I don't think devs have any desire to support any workshop stuff even on Epic or GoG.
I honestly hate it when devs create a PC game with consoles in mind which typically results hard-coding limitations for PC but since console sales have been delayed indefinitely we may hope that they can change this decision in future or at least they can work for a good optimization for PC.

Was this supposed to mean anything? Nobody cares about you specifically, and downloading mods from the game's built in mod downloader doesn't affect you in the slightest just because you're a low IQ Steam fanboy.

"No I NEED to download my mods through Steam" lmao

They wanted mods to be available to all platforms the game runs on.

You really think a company would try to spite their players?? Wow....

Sure, the pdx mod platform hasn't had any growing pains at all. And it was almost ready for game release. CO had plenty of time to work on it while still releasing a polished game on time and doing two console ports with their 30 employees.

I'm sure we'll get that asset editor any day now. BTW, you didn't happen to buy the deluxe version by any chance...

Right so you have absolutely nothing to say and start saying whataboutisms concerning things that aren't related.

"If the game used Steam workshop then the console port wouldn't have been a problem!" lmao

Oh I said things.

But I didn't say that. It quite obviously would still have been a problem.

Meanwhile in reality:
CO had plenty of time to work on it while still releasing a polished game on time and doing two console ports with their 30 employees.

A direct quote saying the devs wasted time integrating the PDX mod downloader while trying to do console ports when somehow using the Steam workshop would have turned out differently. Even though integrating a different mod downloader is exactly as much work.

Gee I'm sick of haters. Query decisions but dont double down on hate.

The only spite here is yours mate.

Oh danny-chan...

If you had also quoted (and read) the second sentence above, perhaps the meaning would have been clear.

But as long as we're here, perhaps you could explain how implementing the workshop would have been exactly as much work as building a new platform from the ground up, as well as putting in place the necessary infrastructure?

Because the Colossal Order didn't create the PDX mod downloader. Duh.

The mod downloader is exactly zero work on the part of the CS2 devs. They just integrate it into their game. They didn't make it. It doesn't change anything to use one mod downloader you didn't make as compared to another, except one works on all platforms and the other doesn't.
Control of the money flow of mods.
Mods will cost in future.
Don't doubt me, just wait.
cirugo Jul 10, 2024 @ 10:30pm
They say they wanted to provide mods to both console and PC without problems. That can't be true because the very nature of console modding prevents code mods.
Many people think it was because Paradox saw an potential opportunity for monetizing modding and gatekeeping it behind their own system. I agree with that.
