How to make a profit with the Economy 2.0 patch
I'm at a loss on how to gain a financial net positive after the patch. I'm basically broke an hour or two into a new game. Can some of you maybe give some advice on the financial side of things?

Another I didn't know about. One of the working Mods has the following in its description:
"You can also change tile upkeep costs, increasing or decreasing tile upkeep (including reducing the upkeep cost to zero)."
Interested? Have a look at "529 Tiles", which does more that you probably thought it did.

Hello
is the economy finally working? I mean to create industries like wood, we can buy and resell resources?

Taxes absolutely play a major role. Too high taxes mean buildings will sit open for rent. Just because you have a building in your city doesn't mean it's being occupied.

Industrial is a major tax income. Just don't set them too high.

Only build what you need in terms of service buildings.

I personally find the economy and upkeep costs even worse than before the update.

I managed to do positive profits with imports instead of maintaining powerplants but ending up having a game where I have to wait most of the time until my city is big enough to actually build stuff like services. Idk how I should feel about this update. Its even harder than before. And for me definetley not enjoyable.

You can't actively buy or sell. It happens automatically by the private companies. But production, imports and exports do work.

Hi, the game isn't any fun since the economy patch, it's a struggle to make money, when I finally did it, the earnings dropped from 14000/h to -11000/h, I have no idea why, the services are suddenly very high? That's no fun

Agreed, unfortunately they decided to listen to the vocal minority of people.

Some changes are good, but overall it's just not fun anymore.

Different people are going to want different levels of challenge from the game.

My suggestion is switch to unlimited money or use a mod to make the economy easier to deal with. After all, money didn't matter before the patch anyway. It was all an illusion, and a significant source complaints because of it.

The patch isn't perfect, but it's a step in the right direction.

Even before the economy patch i was always in debt up until around city level 6, you build with the bonus money they give you for leveling up.
If you make a mistake you will need to take on credit, which you can pay off later.
Also exploit as many resources as possable.

There's a lot more good changes than bad, but those bad changes and the new bugs introduced really overshadow the good.

Well, just like before, I'm probably going to be spending another couple hundred hours just finding workarounds to new problems.

Unlimited money is not the solution. That was something that was never needed pre-Eco 2.0, and never needed in CS1.
It's kinda unfortunate as I feel the game went from flawed but fun, to flawed but not fun. Suppose I'll stick with WRSR until C/O gets back from vacation in a month and they fix things.

I do agree there is some good, but tbh the bad in it, like icedude94 says, kinda overshadows the good.

I recommend building the natural resource extractors like farms and quarries. You can raise the individual taxes for those industries to 30% and it will not affect them. I just filled out the starting tiles with my city and I'm running a 40,000/hour positive cash flow, much of it thanks to those industries.

Tip:Cotton seems to earn the most income.

Early game, open up the budget sliders for industry and turn all the raw resource materials up to 30% tax. Those are resources like livestock, grain, rock, wood, etc.

Those industries do not suffer any penalty from high taxes.

Use windmills in the early game for power instead of the coal plant so you aren't paying for input resources or labor. If you get the full 5 MW, you can export excess power for profit.

Only build a little bit of commercial. Let most of your starting jobs be in industry. Your city needs to export stuff to bring money into circulation in the city. The cims won't have enough in the beginning to do much shopping.
The 30% tax for raw materials did it for me. I've been pretty much swimming in money since I've followed your advice on that. Thanks!

i have no idea, what the he** is this update coming from... i can build nothing. i am always out of money-and i just build only the service-buildings that the city wants! it feels like the latest patch destroyed all my fun to play CS2! i dont want to slide everything down, to rise the inc. money. because i cant build as i did this before the economy patch released! it isn't the anti-stress-from-the-daily-life. i wont play CS2 anymore. if that was your goal, congratulations, u got it -.-

Try the 30% tax on raw resources I suggested in the post above. That will give you enough early game cash flow to build all of the services you want while keeping enough of a positive surplus to expand at an enjoyable pace. I hope that restores the fun for you and takes away the grind from waiting for cash reserves to build up like it did for me.
