Economy 2.0 Seems to be Making the Game Fun and Makes My Decisions Matter
The new Economy 2.0 seems to make this game really fun. It seems now I have a reason to try to balance and plan the economy. It also seems that now I have to think about what I add and how the economy is actually functioning.

Who else is enjoying the Economy 2.0 Patch?

The Steam score is declining.

I wouldn't say more fun, or even challenging, just more tedious. In my opinion the problem has always been that the gameplay has always been shallow and taking a winding road through the desert doesn't make the desert scenic.
The game still has an issue where accidentally placing too much of a zone can cause a weird soft lock, which makes the RCI meter misleading to players unfamiliar with the game. Acquiring raw resources is less involved than CS1, and logistics are nonexistent. Sure, it looks pretty, and now you have to be more deliberate about how much you build at a time, but it still lacks depth and making the game a grind doesn't make it more fun for everyone.

It is definitely a step in the right direction. Decisions do feel more impactful and those sliders now actually need balancing. I barely ever had to adjust anything previously and was able to pretty much ignore the Finance screens.

Feels like what I do is much more impactful! Much less of a city painter now!
Loving the new patch

j/k ofc, I am just about to try it out for the first time now and came to the boards to see what people's opinions were so it's good to hear someone is having fun at least ;)

I find it much more interesting now, but I'm only at 20+ pop so I definitely haven't seen everything yet.

It's certainly much more complex and difficult. I have to say I'm really having a tough time getting to progression 4 because I just can't make enough money. Taxes over 20% causes citizens to leave, yet I need 30% taxes to break even.

Could really use help on how to make it through.

Just be negative. You started with $1 mil. If that money is gone before lvl 4, you probably built services before you really needed to.

Start looking at what you spend. Got a nice shiny police building? Cut their budget. Also you can up fees for parking and electricity and other things. Balance your budget.

I think the new patch made the game (for me at least) a little tougher. My game play, I like to make small towns or small cities not the huge ones like over 100,000 - and it seems with small towns and cities - it's a little tougher.

Since the update, each services building has a breakdown of the monthly costs. Now that we can add/remove expansions to services, you can easily cut down on services. Also, take a look at your taxes - slightly adjust them with some wiggle room for higher taxes if you need them. Watch for education - the more educated your citizens, the more tax revenue you earn (of course, right?).

Finally, build a variety of apartments and multi-family dwellings - the residential meters are still kind of meh.
