I'm over CS2 after reaching a 180k population
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME DO NOT BUY THIS GAME
I'm glad I was able to play the game for "free" through Xbox Gamepass but at this point I don't think I will ever touch the game again due to horrible performance and game mechanics that have utterly ruined it for me.
FYI I'm running a Ryzen 7 5800X process with an RX 7900XT, now that I've reached 180k population my CPU is pinned at 90-99% usage and the simulation speed is so slow that city services are failing the population. The worst issue is with deaths, I have 27 crematoriums and 5 cemeteries peppering the city and even then there is over 50-100 deaths that are popping up making the city ugly. This city has numerous highway networks and excellent public transport in the form of light rail and busses to allow for the roads to not be as congested apart from the major metro areas. If I could post a screenshot I would.. it's bad.
No matter what I do, due to the slow simulation speed, moving cars like molasses none of the city services can do anything to stop the problems.
After spending $2300 to build my own PC I can't even run the game over 30 FPS without simulation speed coming to a near stop.
Another issue is the accidents, CS devs claim that its due to badly maintained roads/none speed friendly curves but I am having 5-10 vehicle accidents on straight highway and due to the aforementioned issue of slow city services, a pileup is created spanning miles because the fire helicopter is moving at the speed of a walking civilian to the accident scene, whilst the rest of the emergency vehicles are stuck in said pileup.
There is many other issues that show that this game was a rushed, non optimized, pile of steamy ♥♥♥♥, but these are the main ones that is making me uninstall the game. City skylines 1 is better, play that instead. Apart from its small max tile amount, mods exist to allow for more map tiles and the game is optimized 1000x times better to allow the speed to actually be changed and growth to be much more organic. Screw you CS2 for making me spend 40 hours just to not be able to play the game after I've only got a 180k population, screw you guys

How big is your population? How's your city running? The amount of copium you must be huffing to defend CS2 must be insane, and if your city is running great how much did your system cost to be able to run this one game when all others will run perfectly on a quarter of the price?

He is right though. Came back after the patch to see whether performance for my main city (130k population) has improved, but it's still at 3x speed equals 1x speed with 10k population. What has disappeared is the sporadics stuttering that we had earlier.

Still, I see how at 180k, things would bog down to a halt for me as well, so I'm not continuing right now. I'll be back in half a year after the next big patch.

Of course he is right. For a normal dude with an average PC this game just gives frustration. And this is the worst a game can do to you as a player. A game must function. There are so many issues with the game. Performance, mods, graphics, FPS, poor simulation, etc.
After a hard working day you just want to game for relax and not have more headachs with a game. Come back in one year and we will see. But i doubt CO will ever fix this mess.

Having played Manor Lords for while, what has struck me is the way people walk in C:S2, a sort of cross between wooden puppets and moon walkers. Is that a function of the game engine or is it, like the myriad other problems, down to C.O.'s poor programming and design skills?

40 hours .....that says it all. You can build a £2k PC but don't know how to take a screen shot....your full of ....t

Game is consumer fraud. CEO should be in prison for his crimes.

Dont expect big numbers with a "slow" cpu. Blaming the game because of a slow cpu, ok.

I run a 5800x and 7900xt as well, 200k is def a point in which the sim tanks to a turtles pace, but I have 2 cities that are fairly large, one 400k one 500k now. So its still possible to keep building and the game runs but dont expect the same pace as a small city..

Would I like them to improve this, yes, do I think they will, doubtful, I just think its beyond the scope of what this engine can do. I think theres legal reason as to why theyre still using Unity but it was a mistake.

CS2 is not user friendly

1.6 million is highest I can go. It's crawling for sure. I wished there was a way we could limit simulation so we can grow the city further. Like have the numbers but the actual simulated sims should have a limit so the game doesn't crawl.

At least it appeals to doggo fans.
Maybe they manage to put a fifth Cities game out of the door someday.

It’s hardly a slow CPU and you know it!
