"Valve is rigging the market and taking advantage of UK gamers," said digital rights campaigner Vicki Shotbolt, who is bringing the case.
Valve has been contacted for comment.
The claim - which has been filed at the Competition Appeal Tribunal, in London - accuses Valve of "shutting out" competition in the PC gaming market.
Beta Testing is usually only for a small group. I do not think anyone has the right to demand to be part of that group.
Holy SH#T your actually telling the truth.
According to the BBC, the lawsuit, filed at the Competition Appeal Tribunal in London, accuses Valve of using its market dominance to overcharge 14 million UK gamers. Digital rights campaigner Vicki Shotbolt, who is leading the case, alleges that "Valve is rigging the market and taking advantage of UK gamers."
The claim asserts that Valve has been "shutting out" competition in the PC gaming market by forcing game publishers to adhere to price parity obligations, preventing them from offering cheaper prices on rival platforms. This practice allegedly allows Steam to charge an "excessive commission of up to 30%," resulting in higher costs for UK consumers, BBC reports.
Shotbolt accuses Valve of breaching UK competition law for at least six years and aims to stop this conduct and help consumers recover their losses. The case is supported by legal firm Milberg London LLP, with partner Natasha Pearman emphasizing the importance of competition law in protecting consumers and holding large companies accountable.
This lawsuit is part of a growing trend of collective action legal cases against major tech companies, including Facebook, Google, and Sony, at the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
That would be bad for consumer, because that would mean even less competition. And microsoft likes to sell monthly subscription, so no more playing for a one time payment. For me, that would increase the cost significantly. A very bad move
And is there forum by microsoft to discuss the games? a place for a workshop (ok not important for CS2, but for other games)?
No,
What Microsoft can add to the mix, you see already. Microsoft buying Valva(Steam) would not add a competitor. Without Steam (or Steam belonging to Microsoft) the situation would be worse for us players, because there would be even less competition.
And as long as you are not constantly buying new games, the Game Pass is more expensive and as it does not give you access to all games (or only for a short time) .You will have to pay for games in addition to the game pass. So the situation would be worse.
