It did not get really slow until around 1.6 million.
IMHO the 13600K is a fantastic CPU for gaming. I also have an i9 12900k 3080 combo that cost 3 times as much and not as fast and is power hungry.
I would still be playing that city if the Beach Properties patch hadn't killed it. I have many more screenshots of this affordable CPU/GPU combo in use early in my CS2 profile.
Install it on an equally affordable and well featured Asrock MoBo and you have a budget jewel.

However, your idea of slow is likely vastly different than mine. But the CPU and GPU is nonetheless a solid pair.
Just googling this and the one you mentioned is supposed to be better. I don't understand why I5s can be better than I9s. I don't research all this stuff, but one would think the I9s would be more powerful.
I'm going to replace one of our desktops this year anyway, so definitely going to make sure I get a good CPU.
However my new 14 gen i9 is back on top for now untill next gen i5.
From day 1 that i5 kicked the i9 all day long gaming in CS2. Still has a massive advantage using almost half the power.
Productivity wise the table turns massively back in favor of the 12900k.
Does the newer models (like last 2-3) of the I9 do better than the I5? I plan on getting a new desktop later this year. Sucks though that I had to move because of smokers/marijuana users; rent went up from 2000 to 2700.
It is much faster than my i5 13600K which struggles in a city that size, but to be clear even the i9 is choked by the game at times.
My 13600K runs really well way over 750k Pop. Slow AF only occurs at 1.3m +- pop.

Sub optimal City layout and design can have a greater impact on performance than the CPU ever would at only 250K pop.
Hey Major Kudos. Could you release a saved game from your 2.5 million city. Since it doesn't use any mods. It would make a great benchmark test. I'd like to see how well my system handles it.
If true than I'm kinda thinking that maybe this game doesn't use ecores or ecores well
it's not massive difference between those, if the 13600k is better cooled it probably does reach it's highest speeds over someone using a poorly cooled 12900k, enough to beat it.
best going for an alternative cooling solution than the one provided anyway.
The core count gap got a lot closer in the 13 Gen i5.
The 12900K is just not a great processor.
It was panned by the critics from day 1 as an extremely hot running inefficient CPU.
I own both and much prefer the 13600K for gaming and power efficency.
Conversely, Intel got it right with the 13600k. It punches well beyond its weight
All of my CPUs are attached to simple AIO coolers.
There are dozens of positive reviews on uTube. Also most enthusiast publications agree. Just google 13600K VS 12900K and you get an overwhelming flood favouring the 13600k.
For Gaming The 13600K always at least matches the 12900k at half the price and power consumption.
Productivity applications? the 12900K is usually the better performer but even now too costly. And not a good choice for gaming today given the superior performance of the next gen i9 13900k. It is cheaper faster and cooler than the 12900k and 13600k.
