Where are the Downloaded Maps?

Finally managed to download 2 maps, not without error messages but they show as active and downloaded on my mods list.
However, starting a new game doesn't show the maps. Is there another location to start maps from the not-workshop?

open the mods screen, start a new playset. when you dload a mod, you have to add it to that playset.
downloading a mod from the site, not from in-game didnt work for me.

There's a separate "tab" for custom maps. In the top right corner, it says "Custom Maps". Click on it, and you should see your subscribed maps.
