despawning option !?
Dear fellow Players,

is it really just me ? I know there are a lot of things desired to be improved in cities (1 and 2). And I dont wanna start another rant. But I am just wondering, is it just me that I cannot enjoy playing a game which is for a big part traffic simulation, when the simulation cheats by despawning cars ?

Its even worse in skylines 2 and there are no mods to correct.

Traffic was for me the only real challenge in cs and now even this is impossible to enjoy as cars massivly despawn and that not only when you got a general problem but even in accidents... its so frustrating because there is simply no need to improve anything.

But my real question is : why is not any option for this in cs 1 or 2 ?
Does it break the simulation ? Even in 1 only a mod made this problem better.

I just dont get it how this cant be a huge issue for every cs veteran out there...

It's a safeguard against the city grinding to a halt or breaking in case the cars are stuck because of a bug/glitch/ai error instead of bad road design. Imo the safeguard should stay in place but the time should be increased or it should somehow check if a traffic issue is due to a glitched car, in which case only that car should despawn. Or it should just prompt the player and give them the option to despawn selected vehicles.

It's likely just one more system not finished or working as intended tbh

I used the no-collide for pedestrians and traffic in C:SI and I am hoping for those mods to come into C:SII at some point in time.

I played CS1 almost exclusively because I enjoyed the fact that the traffic was a real challenge.
Of course with TMPE, and despawn disabled.

It was always nice to see how heavy traffic jams appeared in different places when expanding the city. Because then you had to use your brain and think about how to fix it. A real challenge.

They could have done so much better in terms of traffic control, all optional by default. They should have just looked at TMPE and implemented these features into the game.

But what did we get? We can set stop signs! But unfortunately only on all 4 sides of the intersection. Unfortunately, it's not possible to build something like a priority road without traffic lights. What a pity.

It is possible to create priority roads, but you have to follow the road hierarchy. For example, the small alley will automatically have a yield sign when connected to a normal road, that one will yield to a bigger road etc. This even works for the highways, too.

Of course we need TMPE features, at least some of them. But maybe people have gotten so used to micromanaging junctions with TMPE that they forgot how actual irl networks are designed. The game actually let's you do quite a lot with the vanilla functions, but you have to pay attention to notice this.

Wait for official mods, and TM:PE for Skylines 2, in about 6 months, hopefully they will also fix the horrible traffic AI and you will not destroy your city when you will finally be able to prevent despawning, although the way Mariina described how the fake deep economy simulator works, the resources will just teleport to the destination business if it takes to long for the route to complete, since in the Finland world, time is a monetisation resource, like in that movie with Justin Timberborn - In time...
unless the resource teleports only upon vehicle despawning, that will be fun!

Is there a way to disable the despawn in the meantime, I have searched on the mod page but found nothing.

I would say what an amazing failure to achieve any improvement in a game we waited years for... still I enjoy cs2 and I have the feeling with economy 2 it is finally getting into a playable state (not sure though)

BUT its a shame how much is still missing which we already had... its a desaster there is STILL no steam workshop, and its just not acceptable that in a game where traffic is 85% of the challenge there are hardly any tools for real traffic management implemented...

Yesterday I built a small traffic ramp to help traffic on one motorway... now every single car is using this ramp, the big highway is empty... great :-D just great...

Despawn still not fixable, really, I will NEVER EVER understand how you can build such a great game, and then fail on so easy fixes to improve gameplay a thausandfold... I will still enjoy and play the game and support the devs and team... but I wont spend a penny anymore until its a better game than cs1 and I am afraid this will take another 1-2 years

Not just you.

It's the reason why I didn't purchase Cities: Skylines 2 yet.

I can only enjoy C:S1 with the mods that disable despawning / pocket cars / teleporting.

I don't see a point, for me, on playing otherwise.
