PC specs for future proof Cities II
Hello everyone. I want to get a new PC and have it come with such specifications that it would be future proof to play Cities 2 comfortably for the next decade, including all likely mods and DLCs that will likely come in the future.

I see that the discussion is currently based on the issue of the game having serious issues. I assume that they will be resolved eventually. For that matter, I don’t even have Cities 2 yet. I have Cities 1, with pretty much all its DLCs. For the time being, I am going to stay with Cities 1. Eventually, I want to move on to Cities II.

However, I need a PC now, since I want to do some simple video editing for podcast videos. Other than that, the only use of the PC will be MS Office.

I assume therefore, and I have almost no understanding of computers, that the main demand for the PC will be handling Cities II. What specs should I look for, regarding CPU, RAM, and graphics card (assuming that this is all there is to be mindful of), which would allow me to play Cities II more than comfortably 10 years from now, playing largest possible cities with highest settings.

Thank you.

Wait until q1 2025 and get a 5090. It's far to late into the 4000 series life. If you can't wait. Get a deal on a 6900 from microcenter to hold you over. I'd never recommend AMD unless you don't want a xx80 or better Nvidia.

I have a 7900 XTX which works well alongside my CPU AMD 7800X3D. Works very well and high settings.

This game is cpu heavy. Even a top of the line cpu isn't enough.

No kind of spec will furureproof you. The problem of the game is not a hardware problem.
Was down with covid, for a month. Thanks for the responses. I combined the recommendations and will likely have a custom PC.

Well, the game is currently.. Not optimized at all whatsoever (for once it actually applies). So even a 7950x3D with a 4090 running at 2690 mhz with a boost of 2700 mhz and 32GB of VRAM on top of 64GB DDR5 @ 6400mhz

Is not enough to run the game.. So yeah.. Good luck future proofing this. Once they're done optimizing it in.. the year 2030 we can revisit this topic.

Also, don't wait for a 50xx, not only will the be ridiculously overpriced for minimal gains, there's also no available information on their release date.

Assuming better CPU's will actually improve the performance, you're looking at something like a 16900k and a 5090 to get acceptable framerates at above 1080p.

I wonder how this game would run on a x2 w9 server build.

It seems like the game is limited by memory throughput which manifests as CPU bottleneck. Perhaps with DDR20 it might run fine.

Maybe when Intel or AMD release a quad channel cpu lol.

Mmm.. No. Intel will never be good for CS2 with their current e and p cores. It's a simple matter of e-cores being much lower base clock and boosted clock while only having 1 thread cores.

That's not because I prefer AMD.. But I have to say, Intel has been downright silly.. They've had to delay their 7nm transistors twice now and it means that the only way they can keep wattage low while providing similar performance as AMD is by using e-cores.. Meanwhile AMD has moved on to using 5nm which not only are far more efficient they're also far more power conserving.

I'm just wondering if my new 8086 is up to scratch?

I don't mind turning down the graphics a little bit.

Oh, by the way, I have the full 64K of memory so it should sing!

That's a potato, lol. It runs fine on my 286.

GPU is not the issue. Simulation, which strains the CPU, is.

What the game needs are some limits - namely number of agents simulated - from CS1 to make a reappearance again.

They do not need to be mandatory, they should be optional and changed or deactivated at players' own risk.

Of course, this should not break the game, as in not enough service or goods vehicles being generated, or the lack of them not affecting such service.
