These can no longer be built because of the collision.

raise the height or extend the length of the bridge. one of the recent patches "fixed" bridges so that now they require proper support pillars

It was fefixed so that it no longer works.

Very true, tunnels are far easier to build than bridges.

It doesn't always work - in my case -50m is not enough.
Still, they are crutches - building bridges should actually work perfectly in a game like this.
