No sidewalk on small roads?

Why dont the small astphelt roads have side walks and customization? Its just one flat texture. I want to add things like trees and street lights along side the road. And the small dirt roads just look like orange astphelt and not like dirt. Where are the pedestrians supposed to walk?

I guess they just walk down the edges of the sidewalk-less road like in real life. Most of the roads around the place where I work have no sidewalks.
However, there does perhaps need to be some sort of middle option between the alleyway and regular road, which does have a small sidewalk.
Like, there's a big difference between the (10 mph or so?) small street my parents house is on, which has no markings on it whatsoever but does have a sidewalk and cars parked alongside both sides of it, versus a 30mph main road with one lane in each direction and a center line. I'm sure there will be more options when we get mods though.
