Traffic AI - All drivers are terrible
The new traffic AI is terrible. The main issue is that once a driver cuts in front of another, that driver sits there and 12 more cars do the same. Then the cars behind do the math, change lanes and cut in front of the same moron who is still sitting in one place while everyone who was behind is now cutting in front of them. A car or truck doing a 3 point turn to change lanes is idiotic. Change the code to give priority to the car already in the lane.

Well, people were saying they wished it was more like CS1 - so, there's something I guess...

but yeah, clearly the AI for traffic isn't working properly. and should be fixed, agreed.

Here is screenshot of a 4 lane highway, 2 lanes go on, and right 2 lanes are 2 exits. The lane second from right gets cars cutting them off from both right and left. As soon as a car stops in that lane the other 2 lanes get full and start cutting him off.

As a former member of New York City's bridge and tunnel commuter crowd, it sounds realistic. If you let one person merge in, everybody else tries to cut in and they cut you off.

I can see by the slight curve of the road you have a node there. That's where they are recalcing their pathfinding and they have to make a decision with 3 choices. If you want vehicles only crossing one lane, you have to set up each node to only have 2 choices. Stay in the lane or merge one lane to the right or left. You have too many choices there in too short a distance between nodes.

This would be a better way to handle the top part.

I would also stretch out the 2 lane part even more though. It's short in this photo to fit it all on one screenshot.

Is there no zipper method in America for merging? Thought it was a civilized country. ^^

We imported a lot of uncivilized people and they all became taxi drivers.

Yeah, it was originally similar to your example. But the 2 lanes with the exits, which then split was backing up for the exact same reason.

What I am experiencing with a 200K+ city right now is that vehicles just stop in the middle of the road for no reason and block the entire traffic. What I need to do is to upgrade that road to what ever and change it back, then they will keep moving......Not sure if everyone else got the problem?

;-) back to the game: as far as I noticed zipper method is used in the game, not properly but trying to. Also traffic is what it is: to be avoided. If people use this game as traffic simulator or have a traffic fetish and love to watch little cars, this is not the game for them. Traffic in the game AND real life sucks and shall be reduced.

I only had 100k in my city but did everything to reduce traffic to a mininum. Spider web achievement (50 public transport lines) and more. No parking lot, no street parking, only busses, trams and subway. Which also means: no issues and no stupid traffic. ^^

A lot of stuck cars come from short segments. When creating roads sometimes a really short segment just before and just after an intersection is creating this a lot. Go to road that has stuck car and try to upgrade, the segment goes blue/black and if it is very small rebuild it longer.

Traffic is ruining the game to be honest. There is no way you can possibly have any sort of density without an inevitable traffic jam caused by some stupid AI that does U turns where U turns are prohibited or pedestrians that walk through areas with no crosswalks or two lane roads that force turns in one lane or cars stopping the middle of the road to crawl as slowly as possible into a parking lot or vehicles routing through a bus station etc.. etc..

The AI doesn't even follow the rules that seem to govern them. What's the point of having control nodes that don't actually influence traffic?

There is. Nobody does it.

according to experts in this game,
you have badly built roads
And /or
This is how drive in real life in my random country in the world

totally legit and true
