Noob error or bug? Hope someone can help.

For some reason, any building I place which uses vehicles (bus station, fire station etc.) never has any vehicles active, and basically does nothing.

This issue means that my bus station cannot alleviate traffic problems, and a fire is currently burning untended at the community pool (the irony is strong in this game) right next to my fire department.

I get that vehicles become active when the need arises, but I have a building on fire, and 30+ people waiting for a bus? Both places are fully staffed, and apparently running at 117% efficiency.

Lots of questions. Do you have a bus depot? No depot = no busses. I have no explanation for fire other than pathing. Can they get there? Sometimes a divided road wont allow fire truck to turn in direction of fire. How about Police? Place down a police station, any cars? They go out on patrol, so should appear quickly.

And note if there are problems with the fire truck getting to the building on time, it may well call in a fire truck from a neighbouring city instead.

Yes, I have a bus depot. I have played around with assigning vehicles to the 3 routes I have set up, which is confusing as 1 route seems to have 16 buses available, and the other 2 only 13. Even if I assign 3 buses per route, one always has 0 buses, and no buses run at all, on any route (though there are passengers waiting).

Fire station - the fire is in a neighbouring block. I have no fancy road system, just a simple grid, no reason whatever why a fire engine couldn't get there. No divided roads, no traffic jams, even.

Good point about the police station - I have one of those too, and there are no police cars anywhere either. My city is in its early stages, still getting established, but I do sort of expect the buildings I place to be functional!

Eventually, one fire engine turned up (once the whole building was alight and the trees around it) and it took an age to get there.

I know the service area of the fire station is large enough to cover my entire city in theory, but in practice - having seen how long it takes for the trucks to get to a fire virtually next door - I'm not convinced I don't need them peppered all over my industrial zone, like in CS1. By the time an engine is dispatched to the furthest corners of my city, there will be no building left, and several others will probably be on fire, too.

Oh, I now have 3 police cars on patrol - though I can't actually see any. Perhaps it just takes a week or two for all the emergency services to respond?
