How are you people playing this with non-perfect grids
How are you people playing this game without being able to form perfect grids with the road tool?

I attempt to form perfect 90 degree grids using the standard road tool (I don't use the grid tool) and it gets me nowhere.

Is there something I'm missing? What am I doing wrong? The grids are ALWAYS lopsided.

perfect grids are no problem.
deactivate in road tools point 5 and 6 and you allways get perfect grids

It's an absolute headache, simply removing snap options doesn't always work. Creating manual grids is rough currently.

Cities are not perfect grids

If you want perfect grids you will need to level the terrain first. I think it's fine overall to have a bit of mess, though. It's more organic and more realistic, as Antoine pointed out.

Another tip: try turning off snap to guidelines.

As those above have stated, there are a couple you have to turn on and off to do what you need at times, and not any one thing... bit of a pain really.

Honestly, I just stopped trying to make perfect grids and started going with it. Now I've come to actually like the way my city looks more. Kind of odd because it used to be something of a nervous tick for me seeing the roads not match lol.

Modern day building techniques - just wing it and see what happens!

Haha, well, real life San Francisco is very hilly. There are all sorts of weird lot shapes and driveways that go underground or on an impossibly steep hillside. This is to say nothing of things like building foundations to bedrock or jacking up buildings that have started tipping over or sinking... You've gotta fit your city to the terrain, not the other way around.

Cities are not meant to be perfect but my perfectionism always kicks in; hence my yearn for perfect grids.

Thank you for the replies everybody.
We need to be able to make perfect grids.
Hasn't CO heard? Having OCD is in these days. Perfect grids in C:S keeps me from reorganizing the closets every day.

it draws zones from road being drawn last. so make long roads all the way through from same sides always.

To build perfect grids make sure your land is flat-ish. Turn off the guideline snapping and keep grid snapping on. After your first click (aligned to building grid and road) turn off the grid snapping and second click to built your road. Its irritating as hell but you get used to it quick. Always keep the guideline snapping off. Its only good for connecting curved roads i find.

Whats even more irritating is that your selected options and elevations change in every road so when you are building quick and have different settings in different tabs it messed you up.
