Trying to force 4x6 Residential.
Is there any way to do it?

Try the marquee tool.

Why don't you zone 4x6 ... then leave space for 4x6, then again 4x6?
Will work...

Use the marquee to zone a 4x6 area, don't zone any residential around it until it's got the building site on it. Though land value will come into play - if it's high it's unlikely Cims will want a single 4x6 building so you're more likely to see it split into smaller buildings.

The easiest way to do this is to just plop one down using the developer mode tools.

i found out people dont demand 4x6 5x5 6x6 houses after a while, shortly after start of a new city, always 2 x 2x6 or if you want 5x6 then always 1x2x6 + 1x3x6 instead. same applies 6x6 too, it ends with 3x 2x6 spam. corners are even worse, you need to build road after plopping otherwise 2x2 2x3 spam by game.

i found out again that 3x4 and 4x4 demand is always there. and still provides spacious house bonus for overall happiness. and for medium/high density i prefer 1x6 and 5x5 for apartments as standart.

this s the only thing i can do until a mod like ploppable rico arrive

I don't know how to embed the video, but *this* is what I have to deal with, and it just doesn't make sense.

I truly don't understand, I'm sorry. I think I'm getting senile because even the most simple of things are like mental excercises. Could you send me a video or a picture showing what you mean?

I like how their zoning stops at a certain point, but they don't have any mansions in this game.

How come they didn't include high density high wealth housing? Just low density houses that transform into almost regular houses
Althazar Nov 7, 2023 @ 9:12pm
Personally I just stick to keeping my low density housing in blocks of either 2x4 for most of the homes (a 16m x 32m lot is plenty big for most homes) and 4x4 if want to allow for some mansions to appear in the game (give how wonky the proportions are, the "regular houses" are essentially mansion sized when they sit on such big lots). Sure you have to spend a lot of time zoning out spaces between your lots and what not, but it's a good way to give citizens everything they need and not eat up a lot of the real estate in game.

Yes, the game allows a zoned building to be up to 6x6 cells, but outside of industrial buildings and some retail zones, I don't really zone up to that size. That's 48 m by 48 m (or 157.4 ft by 157.4 ft for some of us), resulting in a total area of 2,304 square meters (24,800 square feet), which is frankly quite massive and a lot of land... Something that won't be cheap when the land values are really high.

what i said is exactly whats happening in that video

after a while(shortly after game starts, even before reaching 1000pop) game just gives you multiple smaller units instead of 1 singular unit of your choice. and certain locations on map always give you smaller lots also.

i also dont think its about land value because it s happening at start of city, when land value is lowest. at least when i look at land value its "blue" / "low"

you get two 2x6 instead one 4x6
you get one 2x5 + one 3x5 instead of one 5x5
you get double 3x6 instead of single 6x6.

but i figured it doesnt do this for 3x4 and 4x4 lots, at least not that much. yes sometimes you get double 2x4 but you can delete and get a single 4x4 easily.

This sadly is the only way I have found to force people to build the sizes I want.

Aww man this is terrible.

I will have to use developer mode, then.

Thank you, guys. I appreciate the attention, assitance, and words of advice. <3

I am experiencing what you are describing in your post as well. After a while, the game only wants to give me 2-cell-wide houses. If I zone 4-cell wide, the game always splits it into two 2-cell-wide houses. It's frustrating as it makes my suburbs look quite bland, full of 2x6 houses.

On another note, the Cities Skylines 2 Wiki says the widest you can go with low density residential is 4 cells. So it seems to be normal behavior when the game turns your 6x6 low density residential into two 3x6s. Here's the source: https://cs2.paradoxwikis.com/Zoning.

ye, well, i thought to myself enough laziness and went ahead , spent half an hour to force different sizes, i came up with 11 different assets so far. would like to share.

https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/2204010189987835357/B2D569D679026DB6C8EAAFDA0F4E70C87C215339/?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false

some of them just bigger gardens btw. not much different.
