Day/night cycle unbalanced and annoying
I'm not reading through 128 pages of discussions to find this, but is anybody else annoyed by the night in this game? Not only is it too dark to do anything, IT LASTS FOREVER. I've recently disabled the day/night cycle and every time I reload into the same city, I have to disable it again. I'm really disappointed because who doesn't love to see their city all lit up? Also, having to uncheck the day/night cycle every time, makes me wonder what other settings revert that I just haven't noticed yet. I'm aware there are a myriad of problems, but those are all getting the attention they deserve.

I believe it's designed around the maps, ie depending how close you are to the equator or how far towards the north and south poles it is. Also it will be dependant on the time of year.

Personally I always turn night off when building as prefer the day anyway, it's in the game options.

That's right.
Easy fix: Turn it off.

to those who simply tell me to turn it off. I have. Can you read? Also, I asked if anybody was annoyed by it like I was, not how to deal with a simple mechanic in the game.

Perhaps, so far I've only played on two maps, but in both, despite it being summer, fall or winter the sun goes down at like 1600. and isn't up again until 0600. Maybe my speeds are broken, because even on 3x it's incredibly slow.

Yes, it is pretty at first but then just gets darker and darker, where it is just annoying if you plan on doing anything.

Apparently in the first game they had a local lighting affect wherever you had your cursor hovering, so you could carry on doing stuff, but for some reason, they didnt bother in this one

They did! I miss my little alien abduction light! I really hope they bring that back!

To that I can answer yes, I was very annoyed.

Night lasts longer in the winter. In terms of being too dark I've found it to be better than CS1 but I still prefer to play with it off. I wish there was a way to still get the changes in sun angle through the day and the sunset and sunrise colours but skip just the night, rather than having the sun just at the same angle constantly.

On a somewhat related topic, the winter visuals need to be improved. Anyone from a cold climate will tell you that driving around with your car covered in snow is extremely dangerous especially if it is covering the windows, which it is on all cars in this game in the winter. It also doesn't make sense for snow to be completely absent from everybody's lawns and all the roads even when it is snowing.

I rather like it. It gives me a break from building as many construction companies close for the night (excluding some inside work. Carpentry, Electrical & Plumbing).

It also gives me time to figure out what I need to improve when morning comes. So for me... it's immersive. I don't want, or have to build every minute. This is my observation time.

I can think of more annoying stuff than this. :GravityCat::armchair::kopi:

fair enough. I'm big about immersion myself, and I do enjoy having the cycle, but this is past the point of that imo. Maybe it's just the speeds that are gettting to me. 1x seems like slow motion to me, 2x seems like what the base speed should be, and 3x isn't fast enought to be considered 3x.

Some complain that the nights are too bright :)
Anyway - I don't have the same problem - once ticked it keeps the settings for the day/night cycle...
Did you do it in Gameplay settings before loading any city (old or a new one)?

Well... that's the only place to do it...

Ooh, no I didn't. I did it after I started my city and was getting annoyed. Next time I start a new city, I'll make sure that setting is already unchecked before starting. I didn't think about that. thanks!

I'm in the same boat, after several nights I turned day/night off

It doesn't influence that actually. I keep changing the settings in an existing city, saving it, coming back - it keeps my settings as changed last time.
Not sure how to help you here apart from directing to P*** forums.

Wow!

To be fair things can get REALLY dark LOL

This is where realism really starts to impact gameplay tbh.
