Seems like they throw out a new driver every time a patch comes out.
Try that, if you haven't already, and, of course, if you have a nvidia card.
I haven't lost any saves yet. Maybe because I save on "Local" and not in the cloud.
Something is messed up with Steam cloud for some people. Don't know what.
I recommend everyone disable Steam Cloud for this game, because the developers can't be trusted to release updates that will not destroy your data.
Savefiles are pretty big, it takes a while to upload them to the steam cloud, especially on slow internet connections.
Another problem might be if your steam cloud is full; keep in mind you have only a limited amount of space available on steam.
If the manual savefile exceeds the remaining space, it won't be saved.
Another problem might be If you end the game and/or close steam and/or shutdown windows before the steam application has fully uploaded the savegame it's very likely the savegame is gone because it may have not fully uploaded yet.
While these are logical conclusions, you're wrong.
I took a deep dive into it, and I found that many of the save files linger in my system, but have been reduced to 0 or 1 kb. In the steam cloud dashboard it shows no data at all. So, something happened that caused a discrepancy between the two, and then the game somehow destroyed the data on my machine, but left the files structure. It did this to both the manual saves and auto saves.
I have never had any problems with Steam Cloud, other than an occasional de-sync that could be resolved by booting the game on the machine with the save you want to preserve. I live in a major metropolitan area, and have good internet. I did not experience any crashes with Skylines 2, other than during the initial stages of tweaking the graphics settings before playing the game.
Cities Skylines 2 is definitely at fault. I believe it has something to do with the way they are performing updates. Though I experienced it with the first update, I notice there are waves of posts like it when they release a patch.
Don't trust them not to make the mistake again, I encourage everyone to disable Steam Cloud saves for this game.
I sympathize, sorry for you loss.
