High density is possible! Even with low population
High density is possible! Even with low population. My first City got to 100k Pop and the demand for low residential never went down, and i rarely got requests for anything more dense than row houses. The problem was that everyone in my city was poor. I had built a giant slum. My second play through I paid very close attention to what was being imported particularly the base resources like animal, grain and vegetable. Then I aggressively tried to get the imports to zero. This does not make the City money directly, but all the business and people who work there make more money. I also lowered taxes for those business and the commercial buildings that use those products to lure more of those industries to the City.
Once I did this I was able to stop building low density as the request for medium and then high was almost continuous! I now have a 30k Pop City with almost all Medium and High density.....the City currently looks odd as i have skyscrapers surround by fields :) I rarely built low density after my first few tiles.

Thanks for posting this! I remember hearing about this in a dev diary, but when you are playing in-game there are no indicators that this is the problem. Shops don't complain that they aren't profitable, they just complain that there aren't enough customers. It seems like the in-game feedback for this type of thing needs to be adjusted quite a bit.

I'm going to give it a shot. It seems like it should be fairly easy to plant some more veggie farms to satisfy my veggie deficit without having to start a new city.

Also use Districts....they smooth out a lot if "issues" with the game . For instance, incinerators are working, you just have to assign them districts. I think districts and assigning city services to them are very important in CS2 as well.....

I've found so far that it's okay to leave demands unfilled, and eventually medium and high density demand will rise.

True....the pace of this games seems slower the CS1. Often after making changes/updates, i have to wait several game "hours" to see what the real effect is....
