Traffic AI not as advertised?
I'm interested in other players experience with this.
I'm at around 170k citizens now, and I feel that the AI resembles Cs1 AI in too many situations. Like a traffic jam on the highway because drivers all change lane at the same node. Also, the roads seem to have phantom / unseen speedbumps. At the exact same node, every car that passes stops, then goes on. And this leads to long lines since the average speed of the area is reduced by 70% (I'm just making up the %, but u get my meaning).

Pedestrians are disregarding the laws, walking over highways, even when there are no crossings.

A real traffic manager is sorely needed. At times there are yield signs in the middle of roundabouts, and the only way to remove them is to remake the entire thing. Same with. And there is serious need for better laning on 3 lane roads etc. A traffic manager would fix it, though honestly I feel the traffic AI is the biggest disappointment, when disregarding performance.

To be clear. I'm enjoying the game. But as it is now I think I'm getting ready to leave the game until things are better.

funny thing i remember to this day they said that ''we will fix the traffic on cities 1 '' and the traffic still bad
i have a two way highway (overpass on top of a avenue) and traffic keeps doing a u turn on the middle of the highway i tried putting no turn signs it doesn't resolve

Lol yeah they'll just wait for the community to "Fix it" with mods,
Cims just ignore all the roadtools except traffic lights, still sucks that u gotta "force" them with highway/Freeway nodes

The AI causes the traffic jam by itself. The cars try to get onto the highway exit from 3 lanes. They block everything, cars that want to go straight out can't get any further.

This has reduced throughput to a minimum. See the distance between cars on the highway exit

It's funny because i have similar roads, but i've not seen the middle road stop and hold up the rest like that without it being caused by me modifying a road, or an accident happened.

Easiest fix would be expanding the 3 lanes to 4, and the off ramp to 2.
Probably what's causing this, is that middle road is going left at the end of the off ramp, and the right most lane going right, and that's why they're jumping at the last second...

I was indeed surprised to find pedestrians walking my highways, many km between towns.

I was annoyed at every type of car using public transport roads. Bus only? Nope. We won't do that. Imagine the revenue I could get on tickets for this if my police did their job.

and why does placing a stop sign put a stop sign on all streets in the intersection? the whole point is to try to manipulate which traffic flow you want to prioritize.

Do these city builders not have any idea about what happens in cities?

I dont know but CS2 seems like its even more dumbed down than cs1. but this time with graphics no one can play. and their priority to remove an advert that a few find offensive rather than focus on the game - more worried about their image than their ability

Traffic is a real mess. Not gonna lie.

There are definately some issues with the traffic that I've observed that manifest on congested highways/freeways.

One is that they seem to have a chance to randomly change to an adjacent lane if there is any level of congestion in front of them. In a congested zone I'll often see the same vehicle change lanes multiple times. At the same time, they'll do this even if they are close to their exit and are already in the correct lane. When you get multiple vehicles doing this too often in a congested section it leads to something looking more like ant behavior where they are constantly bouncing off of each other.

The second major issue that I see is that they wait until the last second to merge in, and will stop too far ahead. This means that they can't make the turn to merge into the lane and often end up first backing up to then merge into the lane (particularly if it is a large truck). This is another issue that ends up causing huge amounts of congestion.

Tweaks to these two behaviors I think would improve traffic flow in congested scenarios quite a bit.

I have noticed at times roads placed on uneven terrain will cut a mini cliff right into the road. I have also noticed the traffic all wanting to merge at one point. It seems like traffic could take more routes then it dose, and accidents are way too common. I had also thought they said everything from skylines would be added but i have noticed the music is missing at the very least.

Same things happening @ CS2 ingame roundabouts. Maybe i could go with mine, oh i forgot, we dont have an asset editor.

LOL everything that in this game (an others) is called IA, it's just an algorithm whit a fancy name.

(end of the quote part)

(Rant part)
The IA can be better, but if the short nodes and transition nodes don't adjust properly, any IA in the world will stop the traffic and make cars do turns of 90 degrees in the middle of nowhere. Probably, this node thing is difficult to resolve, and in the worst case, adds some challenge to the game. (so no high priority fix)

May be some day they solve this, or just like on CS1, don't.

By the way, roundabouts are complex auto-generated intersection nodes. You can't change the street inside the roundabout, because it's part of the intersection node. That's why some roundabouts don't behave as intended. To make real roundabouts, you need to use the old method.

The same, with normal intersections, that you can put stop signs on individual corners.

I can't understand how a studio can make two traffic games, Cities in Motion, and Cities Skylines, and still f*ck it up.
