High-Rent housing icons are a MAJOR issue.
Can't say for sure the source of the issue, but out of 30 videos end results I saw today (English, German, French, Spanish, Russian), NONE have found a way to address the blatant High-Rent housing issues shown through dozens of flashing icons above low-res buildings.

For 10K+ population cities, I challenge you to find one city without this problem and point it out here.

Its either:
- A game balance issue from the devs (possible);
- A major incompetence in city management from everyone (doubtful);
- Nobody bothering to check city statistics (the charts) to troubleshoot the issues (people forget its there);
- Lack of corrective action guidance from current UI tooltips. (must have)
- Streamers are still learning the game and don't give a damn that half their screen is filled with UI warnings and would rather show off new features / their city. (understandable)

Do NOT tell me a mod/DLC will fix this. This needs to be vanilla.
DO tell me the game is not finished yet, i'll give you that one.

It's one of two things. The game mechanics which control that aspect of the game need to be tweaked or they just haven't discovered how to fix it with policies etc.

Most likely a mechanics issue. I don't see it as game breaking. Annoying yes, but not game breaking and I believe it will be addressed. From what I gather they are finalizing optimization and doing bug fixes now so hopefully it won't be a day one issue.
My bet is 2:

- A major incompetence in city management from everyone (doubtful);
- Nobody bothering to check city statistics (the charts) to troubleshoot the issues (people forget its there);

For me most streamers want too much too soon. The official streaming city have 23K population in the beggining and they have metro, train station, airport. What kind of small city has that? A lot of parks and a deficit budget. Maybe too much service and the fact that they never really took care of residencial demand, made the land value too high. High demand, little offer and a city with lots of services. PLUS they have a small industry (that I do not know if its being level up) and a few low density commercial zone and few offices. Where are the high paying jobs???

I would make a lot of residencial zones, a lot of farms, invest in infrastructure for transportation and then I would make industry and level them up. Because you have farms, then you enrich those products. Education and boom, high paying jobs, no whinning about high rent.

Another indicator that I'm right is the fact that even being a small city they have a lot of complains on crime. They made a huge police headquarters (which for me was too much for a small town) and they keep complaining about crime. The Dev diaries said crime increase with homeless. So there are probably a lot of homeless people in their town, because they either can't pay the rent or can't find a house and its driving crime up.

Those videos, official or otherwise is a pain to watch for me. They don't look at wind direction (the official city also have a lot of chirper messages on air pollution), they don't look at ground water, they just build. Majority of youtubers are paint brushers. They want a nice looking city, with this and that building on that exact place, and spend hours planting trees and bushes perfectly alligned and forget the game is a city simulation. You have to worry about things you cant see, not only about traffic. The schools are full? You can't get high paying jobs with that. The taxes are too high? Biffa put taxes on 16%. The icons showing was driving the population crazy, took him 30 minutes to deal with.
I just want to grab the game and play, cause those folks are insane. The city is screaming for industry or housing and they are planting trees and making the perfect curve on a highway, and dont'even PAUSE the game for that.

I'm pretty sure when regular folks get the game it will be much better. Sure some people just can't read or can't explore the game and wil whine on the forum, but a lot will have a good time playing with the mechanics.

I think that is a very likely scenario. Too big too soon before education and good jobs catch up.

I for one am really looking forward to the game since seeing the streams where the people waited until they got the new update with more options and the real graphics. And that Biffa states it didn't tax his pc any more with all the improved graphics is a big plus.

Those vivid colors and jump in traffic quality and all the rest shuts down probably 60% of the arguments against. I think it's going to end up just fine and be a real fun game. Cannot wait to start building roads with those new road mechanics. It was such a love hate relationship in the first game.
And this devs fault. Chirper brings a lot of important messages that would make you avoid the need to check city statistics. I saw chirper messages about water not being enough and getting imported, crime, polution. But who will pay attention to him if 99% of the messages are useless, like citizens saying they moved or they dont want to rain or their packages arrived. You can't mix on the same tool important management messages with cool tweets. Learn from Sim City 4: make them with different colours and important management messages comes from city council board not twitter.

I like the idea of important messages. The game should have advisors that bring up important issues not just icons on the screen.

Definitely needs some balance. I have a small 2,500 city with a fair amount of low density residential. About 50 low rent notifications on screen. I also have 3 big low rent blocks, 150 household capacity, abandoned or empty.

mostly just people notnpaying attention to residential demands and leave them unattended for long, most likely when they set to somulation speed 3 and wait for cash to flow in. During that time if residential demands is at max for a long duration, the land values will rise because everybody wants to move into the city but no new residential zones are being laid down. Rent skyrockets as a result and anooying high rent icon pops up everywhere.
