Another reason why Steam is better, you don't have power tripping mods defending their own product by banning customers.
Confirmed.
9/10 of Paradox' biggest investors appear to be rather unrelated to tech and only see their investment as a vehicle to hedge and grow their wealth… and the one that isn't is Tencent Holding. Ffs, I never thought I'd mention Tencent as a positive. :/
I'm not sure who owns Colossal Order, but even if they are an independent organisation on paper, they appear to be highly dependent on Paradox in practice.
Not financial advice! (duh…)
Investors seeking gains from the videogame industry has greatly intensified over the past years due to its unprecedented growth, but it appears most still need to make sense of having invested in a highly volatile industry dependent on its community. Eternal growth is a lie that can't be forced!
Just look what happens to Ubisoft. I wouldn't be surprised if CDP and PDX are next.

I played Cities in Motion, and I found the game was a bit limited in scope and size ... but great, back then :)
CiM1 is a great game no doubt, much better than CiM2. Then they abandoned the franchise entirely and moved to CSL. Maybe we'll see something similar happen with CSL2? Who knows…
On the relation between PDX and CO: According to the article, PDX owns all the stuff CO makes. Even though they say PDX grants CO great freedoms, it's clear who's calling the shots.
Thanks for the information. I've honestly been afraid to look at the investor side of Paradox (ignorance is bliss) and I wish I could just go back to being ignorant and not paying attention to the people behind the curtains (developers, publishers, etc).
I just want to play the game and be happy, but moves like the recent modding announcement make stuff like this very difficult.
Good read.
There is a lot of nice people in this forum, maybe this game series someday gets multiplayer...one can dream and hope :)
It would give the community a great fun boost.
This game is the last of my 2023 "series". The series was CoH3, Payday3 and KSP2.
All titles turned out as turd garbage, this is the only game of the 4 which is decent, nice, a proper game and fun. Cities2 is the only one I bought and kept.
Originally my series included Men of War 2, but a real war bombarded the devs - Sadly.
And btw I'd also prefer to exist a Paradox+Steam workshop than just the Steam workshop alone.
Please, go to Paradox Plaza and check out the amount of mods there are for CSL.
Then tell me that Workshop and Paradox Plaza can "coexist" when Workshop has some 3500 times as many mods.
It is just not feasible, 'cos given a choice. Modders are lazy.
This move does nothing to Steam owners, but Console and GOG players actually get access to the same amount of stuff as Steam owners. That is a huge win for everyone.
CS2 is going to use a different workshop, its own workshop exclusive for the game and because CS2 is made by CO assets/mods are directly compatible between all versions, so no conversions are needed between platforms. There is no reason why each time a mod is uploaded/updated in one platform it wouldn't also be done the same into the other.
