Not working for me either
So, I tried it both ways and the source always remained. Then I booted it up in developer mode, played around with some of the water settings, and in the same area, I was able to raise terrain to get rid of the lakes, and this time, in dev mode, the water source did NOT reappear when I brought the level of the land back down.

This almost seems to a troll or something to have people looking for a non existent option.
I tried to keep levelling the ground layer by layer, drain the water by making it go down layer and after a few tries i managed to cover the puddle of water by few layers. (reload if the flood gets worst and try again).
But indeed: works crappy:
