Building underground
Building underground, e.g. tracks, is designed terribly. I can't believe it couldn't have been done better. You can barely see what you are building and you get lost in these depth levels.

It helps alot to have a plan in advance (your not wrong btw)

So on my new city i put my power cables at -50m. My plumbing at -5m. All my tracks at -20m and any underground roads at -10m. And i made sure to make it universal across the city. Really helped my sanity levels lol

Aint this the frickin truth, half the time i try to build ♥♥♥♥ i have no idea if things will stick together. Did no one playtest this beforehand?

Was one of my favorite parts to CS1... I absolutely hate how it is in CS2

Build things under the surface is a pain. Looks like the developer sont play their own game. Otherwise they should be aware and fix that ♥♥♥♥

A big change from CS1 is that you need to have your road tool set to the height of whatever you're trying to connect. So if your underground highway is at -30 feet (or whatever), set the tool to -30 feet first. If you're connecting highway ramps at 60 feet, set the tool to 60 feet and so on.

While this does help in building networks that are stacked - in that the game doesn't automatically assume you want to connect things at heights you actually don't - it is another step we're not used to.

Once I got used to it, I actually appreciated this change. One big feature they're missing in this regard though is the ability to build roads lower than the surrounding terrain without automatically going into tunnel mode. I'd love to specify myself if something is ground/elevated/sunken and so on.

First, there's no road depth indicator for existing underground roads. Second, -50 is the maximum depth setting shown on the toolbar. Third, there are no visual cues when working underground, such as a segment of the road you're trying to connect to highlighting when you're hovering over it with a road-building tool selected.

I hear you. This is frustrating with other networks, as fundamental as simply trying to connect under ground water/sewer and power lines. It's quite often a matter of "let's see if this height will actually form a connection", then trial and error.

i have found in building my underground roads, to not take them past a certain level in depth. yes i could very well be missing a step here. but the other night i built one road that was very deep and accidentally clicked off the road and when i went back to re acquire but couldn't nor could i get the bulldozer to see it 😭 i had to start all over
