How do rail lines work?
I cannot seem to get trains onto my rail lines. I have a depot, its connected to 1 of the train stations but there is no train on that rail line. I have no clue what I am doing wrong. Do all lines have to go trough the depo (which would be stupid) or how is that working?

All lines need to connect to the depot in order for the train to move onto the line.

Also, cargo trains (for now) are utterly useless.

You need to make a route. Either cargo or passenger rail. You can connect the routs to the edge of the map and back to your station. They do not need to go through the depot. As long as the depot is connected to the rail system, it will work.

You need to use the routing tool, but you also need to make sure the track logic makes sense. Use the double tracks, and make sure trains are able to move from track to track regardless of what direction they are travelling. If you don't do that, they have to overshoot the target and back track, and they won't do that if theres other trains in the way. lol.

Cargo train hubs do work, but they need to be near industrial areas and you need enough track so the trains can get in and get out without blocking each other. First city i made i had issues with all this, the 2nd city i made, i used alot more room and planned out the tracks better and the trains function correctly now. Its a pain in the arse though.
