Yes, that happened to me once. I found no other way but to start a new city and activate the automatic saves which are saved locally. Sorry for the loss of your city, maybe someone else will have a better solution.

good news My city is back !! I guess next time I will save it on local. I think it was because the steam cloud was not performing at that moment. Anyway, good news for me.

Happened to me too on local, there's a temp file for my save, the launcher shows it on "resume" but when clicked, or if you go to the save folder, its not there. Steam also doesnt auto back it up and I didnt know the devs weren't thinking when they made you have to click another button to save on cloud. So I guess I just lost my city, Collosus games is a collosus failure

Never ever use the Steam cloud feature. It's a complete joke. I've lost so many save games using that. It's not specific to this game, it's Steam's fault. What happens is your save game gets uploaded to the cloud, then you go to play the game later on, and Steam's cloud is down (which happens a lot) and so you decide to play locally anyway despite the warning they give you. You save and exit when done, and think everything is great, but the next time you play Steam downloads the old save from the cloud even though your local save is newer, and you lose all the progress you made.
Steam has known about this issue forever and has never bothered to make the simple fix of checking the date / time of the save and comparing to your local save date / time before overwriting your local save with the older outdated save from the cloud.
