Zoned buildings don't change when they level up?

Doesn't matter what level they become, they stay the exact same as when they first appeared. Spent hours simulating because I wanted to see the cool new buildings as my city improves like in CS1, but nothing. Am I missing something? If not...that's horrible.

This is really disturbing to me. Am I understanding correct that when buildings level by fulfilling needs the visual look of the building never changes?

I've seen houses change from trailers to a proper house.

I've seen buildings in this game level up but not change visually.

That's true, I have seen low density homes change a little bit, but that's it. Industry and high density residential/commercial/offices I haven't seen any changes, and I've leveled them up as high as 3-4.
