How do you remove underground sewer and water pipes?

I removed a water pump from one area, but the pipes seem to remain and even though you can't see the pipes, the icon for them remains above ground. Any way to remove the pipes once they're laid down?

in the bulldoze screen you can toggle between above and below ground

There's a symbol just above the toolbar you click on to go underground. Looks like a tunnel cross-section.

At the bottom panel right over happiness meter. A rural house symbol. Click it and you are in underground mode.
