Best Map for a Beginner?
I played a few hours of CS1. Was just playing too many other games at the time. Looking at the selection of maps in CS2, it can be a little overwhelming to select a map that wont be too difficult to build on and/or not have enough natural resources to make decent money.

Any suggestions WITH and explanation as to why that is a good beginner map would be appreciated.

Lakeland is the best map for beginners in my opinion and in a lot of the game testers. Lots of buildable area, good climate (sunny), lots of water for sewage and viewing purposes, lots of every natural resources. Only negative is it is missing one outside connection (can't remember which one) but you can build that one in the future (you could not do it previously for whichever one it is I know that for sure)

I've been using Barrier Island or whatever it's called and liking it. It looks nice... has all the stuff. What more reason is needed? Just play.

I'd say Barrier Island or Tampere, I decided to go with Barrier Island for my first city. Both are relatively flat.

I found this video helpful:

Consider playing with infinite resources to get used to the game. Then choose any map that looks fun to you.

It's not balanced anyway, so I wouldn't get too hung up in creating a perfect system yet.

Barrier Island is pretty good. Plenty of area to build, nice areas and scenery. Mostly flat. Easy access to water, good currents.
