why unity engine ? could have gone for UE 5 engine
unity anti consumer and anti developers why was project made in unity ,

you wont even update the unity engine that supports dlss 3 and fsr 3 bcz that needs new contract signing that you wont sign ,

just port your game from unity to unreal engine 5

Oh yeah; because porting a game from Unity to unreal engine is something you can do in a day with a team of 20 people whilst still making the deadlines on time...

Tell me you know nothing of coding without telling me you know nothing about coding -_-

"Just", hah, good one. Tell me you've never worked with a game engine before without telling me you've never worked with a game engine before.

They most likely were too far dug in already when Unity started going downhill.

Like the above poster said, its not easy to migrate to new engine.
But yes Unity is hard to optimize especially for simulation game on this scale.
Hope CO quickly address the performance issue.

Currently played on gamepass but will buy it on Steam some day soon.

come on guys, should be an easy job for an AI script, who needs developers in 2023
Sol4rSky Oct 25, 2023 @ 9:45am
devs should start making their own engines like it used to be. Soon enough all games will be on UE5 and Unity and all look identical in terms of graphics / performance which sucks.

Dont get me wrong UE5 looks great but if you see 5 games made in it, you'll see patterns. The only thing will be either going out of the norm with the aesthetics or simply aiming for even more "realism", otherwise all games will start looking the same. The worst part is not that but the control schemes which will feel the same due to the engine.

ps : seeing Cities skyline's 2 optimization, prolly chatgpt was used lol

That's not how game dev or game engines work.

It's mostly about which engine the developers already know. If they were familiar with another engine, then porting may be easy. Employees are quite a challenge for companies to cope with.

It is you can readily identify most unity and unreal games. Especially breaking it down between generations like Unreal 3.

It's rarely problems with Unity itself, and more so problems with the people that code on Unity. If they optimized it well enough, no one could even care to go the extra mile to speculate 'would it do better on Unreal Engine 5?' When the truth is, there are a lot of good unity games, but many many bad coders due to the accessibility of the Unity Engine in the first place.

UE5 didn't exist yet when they made a decision about CS2 - CO has already explained that :)
It's a shame.... but maybe it will work. I'm already happy with how many triangles assets can have.... and that you don't seem to have to make lod models for each of your asset if you're creating for the game.

wow they really went and decided to use unity in the game even after all that controversy, maybe theyre not familiar with unreal engine
BigYundol Oct 26, 2023 @ 1:31pm
Do you want to burn down your system?

Look at the more simply High Rise City with UE4-Engine, which has heavy GPU demanding too.

1. unity controversy was last month. the game is in the making since 5 years now
2. co is a team of unity programmers, you dont learn a new engine in some days, this take years for a small company to switch engine

Porting to Unreal Engine 5 is not a simple flip of a switch. Unity is actually a very good, but heavy engine. Unreal Engine is also much, much more resource intensive. Colossal Order is also familiar with Unity3d because they made Cities in Motion 1 and 2 before Cities Skylines I, so it only makes sense at a coding knowledge level to use the Unity structure again.

You cannot. Not when it's well made. You can when it's an indie dev that use the default presets of the engine. But if you know what you're doing, an UE5 or Unity game can look the exact same on both of these, or with any other engine.
