Urban Sprawl
Watching City Planner Plays newest episode. I remember them saying in the dev diaries that low density and medium density housing don't absorb the same demand, seeing that play out in his episode makes me immediately worried about urban sprawl. the game is literally going to force you to sprawl rather than thinking smart about land use. they should change it back to the old method of housing demand being just one demand catagory

No, what they're saying is that the medium and low density housing have different demands for them, just like in real life.

You'll have to wait for the "Combined Demand" DLC in a few months for the low, low price of $99.99

Didn't they say it was going to be 129.99, or is that the ultimate edition of the DLC?

Housing demands AKA the green one.

So... you mean they are implementing realistic demands? A single family house no longer uses the same amount of utility and resources as a 50 story skyscraper with 1,000 people? I never would have guessed.

From the videos, you will see 3 green bars now. The lighter green is low residential, the slightly darker green is medium, and the darker green is high density.
It will make it easier to determine what level of zoning is needed.

Also looks to be happening to commercial and industrial as well.

Oh, I didn't realise you were talking about how much is needed.

No worries, the problem with CS1 was to zone until demand went down. And it didn't really matter how, but now by the looks of it we will have to put more thought into zoning.

I disagree with your assessment of the problem; the whole point of the game was to use zoning tools to meet demand. as the player you decide how to design your city. that's not a problem that's the game play. if those kind of base level choices are being stripped away, then so too is a function of creativity.
