DLC scares and discourages me
I was a day one purchase of skylines 1. Then over the years, hundreds of dollars of DLC was released, never in a pack, never at good discount. I felt burned, I paid the most and got the least experience.

Now I see this game wants $122 season pass for what is probably some dlc, looks again over priced DLC. Looks ready to burn me even harder this time.

Will this game head in the same direction and I'm better off waiting 5 years for it to finally hit 50% off and get the highest reviewed DLC at that time?

One can typically buy a key for half the price of the basic game version and also wait for the steam reviews, to see what others say about the game.

Someone will build up the entire map full of stuff, at some point after the game release, to show on Utube how the game performs.

It wasn't long ago you could get the game and all DLCs in bundle for cheap on Humblr Bundle. I believe it was around $20

It seems we can expect the exact same pricing model for DLC in this as in CS1, which also means you will likely be able to get them on sale pretty commonly as well. I'm not super cross about it as it seems they implemented a lot of the former DLC content into the base game.

The game will definitely have DLC.

If buying DLC means the game will be supported for a decade then I'll buy it. I'm not sure if the price of the game is reflective of whats necessary to simply support the game or is a cash grab, the cynic in me says they're probably milking me. It is what it is, but for me a good city-builder is my bread and butter so I'm looking forward to playing the game for countless hours and welcome any additional content. For SC:I I bought some of the DLC up-front and bought some of it on-sale, I ignored all the radio stations as I was more interested in gameplay.

Five years is a long time to wait to play a game and it IS a game, not a mortgage or auto loan. Instant Gaming is offering 25% off standard and 29% off ultimate if you're looking for a better deal.

I realise that money is no object for real players, but some of us poorer folk may be hard pressed to pay 49.99 for a game that requires us to re purchase a new DLC just to get back the same capabilities we already had in CS1. Guess we'll all find out in about a month and a half.

Most of the DLC is music stations and content creator packs and is decidedly non-essential. I have never bought a single music pack. I did buy a few CCPs that piqued my interest though. Much of the game I just used vanilla + workshop.

It's DLCs that makes free updates possible. I would rather have DLCs than yearly releases with minimal updates.

I am very sorry to hear you feel duped because Colossal twisted your arm forcing you to buy all the S:C DLC's.
Like they are now forcing you to buy the Ultimate edition of S:C2 for $122

FWIW There are only 11 DLC's which would (arbitrarily) be a "must buy"
Ranging from 7,99 to 15,99
You might be slighty exaggerating a just a tiny weeny little bit with your statement of "HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS"...

Radio's ---> You don't need these (There... saved you THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS)
Content Creator packs ---> You don't NEED these either (they are there to show your appreciation for community content creators. NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO BUY THESE)
(Saved you another COUPLE OF MILLION DOLLARS)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
