Additional content that is not required to play the game. Who cares about San Francisco bridges unless you're recreating San Francisco.

People really need to stop saying this.

For like an RPG, or a platformer, that is expected to be a whole package, it kind of makes sense. But RPG's also don't expect post game support, they launch, have some bug fixes, and maybe some balance passes if there was something really problematic, then the dev team moves on. Just as the player's probably move on after their 20-100 hours to finish the story/levels.

For a game that you don't finish, and are expecting content patches to keep the game fresh for longer, the Dev's need to be paid somehow, which means some type of payment by the players. While it's not strictly by genre, different genre's do tend to have different models, subscription (MMOs), DLC (4x/simulation), micro translation (Moba/FPS) or mix of the 3 (battle passes). And before anyone says they should do "expansion packs" instead of DLC, that is just DLC, but implied to be more content in a single purchase.

Saying "cut content" implies there was some type of "complete" game, that is now incomplete because part of the game was removed and placed behind a paywall. But there isn't a complete game, it will always be able to be added too. New content will be added, some free to everyone, some as DLC, and even if the devs envision some final product, by the time they get close to it, they'll have thought of even more things to add.

You don't need to buy any of the DLCs or Content Creator Packs to play the game. By offering these items separately, they keep the base price low so more people can afford to buy the game. Gaming programmers don't come cheap!

One of the joys of CS1 was that it kept evolving and the DLCs helped keep it fresh. CS2 will rightly do the same
