The map sizes are small.
Cities Skylines 2 maps are tiny. In comparison to cities skylines. The new game has only 159km squared of buildable spaces, now this is 61 square miles, this is a tiny map. In comparison Cities Skylines had 324 square Km of buildable areas, or 125sq. Miles.

This means that cities skylines is double the size of the new game. Now someone will argue that the game is fun. What does that have to do with the Map sizes?

P.S. I meant 81 tiles =324 sq. Km.

I don't know if mods will be able to add onto the map sizes if the ground is not buildable outside the game border region, if it's not, we're stuck with a tiny map.

Really ? 159 skm buildable ? How about that ? How does that compare to a CS1 25 tile map ? Without mods that's probably big enough don't you think?

Oh well guess we'll just wait and see.

Again guy, like I said if mods don't make it work, we're stuck with a tiny map with paradox only mods. Someone tried to literally tell me they're showcasing the console version. But didn't provide a shred of evidence. I call BS on that claim by the way. My theory is that both the console and PC version will both have paradox mods, but that's just a theory unconfirmed. It would make sense since you consider how it'll generate paradox new accounts or new members.

Steam was already taking away DLC content away from cities skylines developers, that's lost revenue. (through mods)

So ? Let them do whatever they are going to do. It's no money out of my pocket one way or the other. At 49.00 CS2 was never in the running. Without Workshop mods CS2 will never be on my list of options. I created what I needed with CS1 before they messed it up so I got my 3.95 worth.

If they ever do get CS2 right I may bite on it for a while or they can flush the whole thing down the crapper, ever which floats their boat.

That’s not the argument, I present them with facts and they belittle me saying that I misinform. Google is 5 sec away. They don’t bother educating themselves. Same people to rate the game 3 stars.

I totally agree. There is no reason for or point to be made or need in or anything of value to gain from argument. If CS2 comes with no mods and a 25 tile map then that's that. What will be will be. Absolutely no benefit in trying to rush tomorrow.

Facts require a reputable source. In which you've never provided once. Maybe look up the meaning of facts.

No, they are not "small", in fact the playable map area of an unmodded SC2 city is 66km² bigger than it was in SC1. While this is not as big as a modded SC1 it's by far not "small" and especially not "tiny".

And if we consider, the claimable area was only 3x3 tiles and around 33km², than we have even more than 120km² more to buid on in an unmodded game.

Why is it that you try to talk anything bad on this game? I mean, this is not the only topic where you try this!

Is the 159 sq km confirmed now ? I thought the dev diary is not out until later today. But yea, if it goes down that much I won't buy it.
Is the 159 sq km the new total map size or the build-able map size ?

If the total map size is smaller than in C:S1 then it's a step backward, regardless how it's justified. 81 tiles in C:S1 was popular for those who could use them. The fact that some couldn't use them won't change that it would be a step back for those who could.

Let's wait for the official dev diary today and we'll learn how map sizes compare.

So you make things up then tell others to Google it instead of providing a source. Exactly my point. Fail.

We'll all find out in about an hour & half. Direct quote from paradox says....

"A map tile in Cities: Skylines II is smaller than its predecessor - but you are able to unlock almost all tiles, giving you a whopping total of 441 map tiles." No mention there about how that relates to skm or sm.

I'm betting total map size hasn't changed & around 200 - 300 tiles playable vanilla which would put playable area somewhere between CS1 25 tile and 81 tile map. Which I'm sorry to say makes CCJ's estimate rather conservative. If you jump in quick we've got about 60 + minutes to argue about it. :)
