How should they do mutiplayer?
PossibleTango Mar 6, 2023 @ 10:48am
They should just have multiple cities that you can choose from and people can visit each other or work together if you want.

They shouldn't. City Builders are a single player experience for a reason.

That is true. The multiple city layout from SimCity 4 would be a good work around, but it should still be a single player game at the core, but maybe allow the connection of cities through a world system

Hopefully not. When was SimCity successful? When it was single player. What is Cities: Skylines? A single player game. What killed SimCity? The forced switch to multiplayer and all the limitations and frustrations that came with it.

Successful city builders have always been single player experiences. Leave it at that.
I don't think it's fair to say that multiplayer killed sim city when EA have a legacy of killing great IP. The map size was more of a factor than anything else, you need to stop building just when the city start getting interesting because you ran out of space.
Also you guys are acting like simcity societies wasn't a single player flopped reboot attempt.

-1 Pls NO multiplayer, waste of resources!
While I'd be all in favour of an 'Archon Mode' so I can play with my dad, designing the game around multiplayer would be a dumb idea.

Would be nice.

Blaming Sim City 2013's failure on MP alone is short-sighted, it was also 10 years ago on a worse engine/platform.

Just don't make it mandatory like EA did.

i loved SC mp,map size and the dumb ploppable sytem killed the game and removed depth, and all the lies about how glass box worked

Multiplayer games such as co-op should be finr, everyone playing in a city with no restrictions should be ok, just not like simcity 2013.

Thats EXACTLY what Sim City wanted to be but failed massivly. Might be because of the limited space you had for a city but if you have massive space to build you don't need another city that provides something.

There is enough space to build multiple cities and Smaller towns that produce certain stuff to move then by rail or Semi-Trucks. Already possible in CS 1.

And This game is one of the less exceptions where i don't need a multiplayer. I play MP only most of the time. IF they find a way to sync it well like Anno 1800 i'll might play with a friend or two but it should not be a Number 1 Priority for release. As someone said: Something with Demand he said and all the stuff C:S 1 included.

AND TRAFFIC MANGER TOOL !!!!!!

The reason I blame Multiplayer for the fall of SimCity is because the maps were small specifically because the engine had to be nerfed to accommodate multiplayer. That's also why the Sims had to drop the open world of Sims 3, because it was going to also be multiplayer and they realized too late to salvage it that it would not have worked even a little bit.

Most, if not all, of the problems that SimCity experienced were consequences of the focus on multiplayer. It was a real tragedy because the actual city building parts of the game I think were better than Cities Skylines. The zoning conforming to the roads and the modular buildings, combined with the beautiful art style were all amazing. Plus, I miss the wacky disasters like Godzilla, Killer Robots, Zombies, and Alien Abductions. It was a tenth of a five star game and Cities Skylines was a whole four and a half star game. The biggest thing keeping SimCity from still being on the top was the toll taken from making Multiplayer the main focus.

EA just shot Maxis in the foot and told them to run a marathon. They didn't understand what made City Builders so great and Colossal Order did, which is exactly how they dethroned SimCity with what had to be less resources at the time.

What if they added co-op like prison architect? I think I'd have friends who'd love to build a city together! We can "build" separate areas anyways, y'know?
