There is an Among Us rip-off on Steam (I think?)
Let me clarify before anything else that fan-made games/mods are good things. Making an Among Us inspired game is also a good thing. Creatively expanding and reapplying Innersloth's core ideas could very well lead to great products being released in the future.

This however is by all accounts a rip-off and a lawsuit waiting happen. Were these people given any kind of permission or approval by the AU devs before putting this up on steam?

If he made it like Dani did, never release it and play it with friends, there would obviously never be a problem.
From what I heard, the creator bans everyone who brings this up in his discord and there was no permission from Innersloth for the creation of the project.

This is going to be the topic of future Steam Direct Deep Dive videos aint it?

I think they dont need a permission. Otherwise a lot of games wouldnt exist, for example league and dota.

I think you do need permission for riding on someone's coattails.

currently you can pay 100 euros or dollars im not exactly sure to release anything aslong as its not harmful onto steam since greenlight doesn't exist anymore.

Ok, I took a little browse on the game's page. This is the most blatant copy I've ever seen.

As I said before this is def trading on someone else's IP. This isn't transformative or stand alone enough otherwise.

I really hope the dev team of Among Us was prepared enough and made some precautions (e.g. copyright, trademark ect.....anything) to prevent these shady "devs" to cash in on this game's success.

As someone mentioned above, there is no issue with creating games inspired by other games. But this is just simply a straigh up rip-off. And the funniest thing....this forum page:

Where they even dare to say that t "The game is not a copy of "Among Us", since the game does not use mechanics, models, sounds, etc. similar to that game, so any mention of it will be deleted, please follow the forum rules."
But has literally the name "Among Us" in the title. and threaten anyone who is mentioning the similarities that the comment will be deleted.

Wow, that is just amazing. That is the most blatant ripoff of a game, and they say "Yeah well, we used a different engine so it's definitely not a copy". Colored spacemen completing tasks while trying not to die, but 3D, so definitely not a ripoff. They literally made it extra obvious with them deleting all the posts that mention the original game. Of course, steam being the trash that it is, allowed this to actually be on their store.

I'd like to point out, I heard of the whole "one of us is a murderer and we don't know who" concept two decades ago, because I was a little kid. Its called "murder mystery" and its hardly a new concept, it just sometimes gets new spins.
