Arch nemisis: Replicator, or Overcharge-wielding (Seraphim) SCU
I totally want to see a transforming Aeon walker-fighter. That would be awesome.
For least favourites? Mostly things that fail at their intended goal. The stealth field generator's rather meh since Omni sensors are so easy to get and ignore it totally. The fighter/bombers are generically bad at both roles, and amphibious tanks are sort of meh all around.
Honourable mentions of win:
- Spamming out support commanders and building under the sea
- Monkeylord due to name and pewpew laser
- Czar in standard for suicide bombing it and for spamming massed Restorers in FA
- Shield Generators and the Paragon for letting me build anything I want while derping around
Dishonourable mentions of fail:
- Yolona Oss for being bland and boring
- Almost all Seraphim units for having unpronouncable names
- UEF ACU's shoulder drones. Always watching, always mocking, hardly useful. They talk big behind your back, but can't build worth crap themselves. I'll put an end to them, though. I'll show them. I'll show them all! MWAHEHE! They called me mad. MAD! Can you believe it? Just because I nanolathed a hot tub for robots. I filled it with oil! It's not like I didn't think ahead! But no, they just float there. Judging me. Seething. Hateful little drones. Shall be fed to the lathe... yesssssss....
actually the omni range on the omni sensor isn't that big. stealth can still be a big help even in late game.
[cross]fighter/[/cross]bombers can be VERY effective in sniping enemy acus. I have done so many corsair (cybran) snipes and died to a few notha (sera) snipes. although with the janus (uef) I must agree that the stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiink.
the amphibious tanks can be pretty cruel. you can either be a disrespectful player and spam so much hover tanks (only the cybran amphibious tank isn't hover but that helps it in stealth), or raid them with "imba" wagners.
I have a theory about that: every alien name in any game was come up with by combining many letters and calling it a word.
they can be the most imba, op, and cruel things ever in small maps in early game.
I prefer larger maps with lots of time to build up large, sprawling bases, so the shoulder drones're pretty much worthless to me and just take up a slot that could've been better spent elsewhere. In a small, close quarters fight that lasts 5-10 minutes, sure, they're useful then, but why are you even playing the game at that point? =P
To each their own, obviously.
And yes, most alien names suck like that in most games. Not everyone can be a linguistics professor like Tolkien and create entirely new languages from scratch. Most people just faceroll the keyboard and favour rarely used letters (like Y for the seraphim is abused to hell and back, as is U).
The point I was making there was that they aren't put together like actual words. A quick linguistic test is to study a set of words for a brief time, then try to write out what you think they were. If you're not very close, then they aren't likely to be "real" words since words naturally evolve over time in language to be easier to remember and more natural to make sense. There's been some rather neatish studies on it, but anyway, it's just that throwing semi-random letters together does not a language make and I hate trying to remember what each of the seraphim units are because their names are useless. =P
