Strategic Missle Defence
I cant stand Strategic Missiles and I refuse to use them as a method of winning but at the same time I refuse to shut off that option on my PVE skirmishes because it is a part of the game and when i do finally play PVP i need to know how to deal with these pesky little packages of death.

So, do i simply place the SMD units adjacent to prime targets and wait for them to deploy or do i need to play a more active role in my defense strategy?

well if you have an smd by min 20-25 you shouldn't be killed by nukes (unless they get a yolona oss). I suggest placing it in your biggest base (if you have more than 1).

Oh, its actually one of my favorite elements of the game :D
SMD units operate on their own as long as they have missiles to use. The location for these depends on your playing style. If you have a very compact base, you should put SMD units in the direction of your enemy's base. If you tend to spread out and have a bunch of FOBS, though costlier you can place one SMD at each FOB, forming an "Iron Dome" which will intercept missiles heading towards your main base as well.

Sort of on topic. (Mods and nukes) Was playing about with a mod called Normalus, which added some new units and such. Found a game breaking glitch (Which I did not use to win).

Much like you, I dislike using nukes to win, however I love using them just to make explosions and such. or to strike at forward targets such as naval factories and mass extractors. I am gloriously wasteful with my nukes because I only play PVE so I don't mind.

The mod has a bot called "Grim Reaper" that essentially does everything. It has SMD, it can launch SMs, it has an engineering interface that can actually build stuff (at all levels) as well as handle repairs etc

The gloriously borked thing I found, is that it was designed to launch 2 SMs at the same time, but you could hit the launch button and fire it when only 1 missile was constructed. This still triggered two missiles, and caused the missile counter to go to -1. From then on, I could spam the N key while clicking, and I had dual nukes wherever I pleased, with no cost and no reload time, so I could just rapid fire nukes everywhere. Best bug, ever.

Anywho, on the topic of nukes (I feel my extreme use of them qualifies me to respond somewhat) Ensure your SDM units are stocked up, I am pretty sure they have an auto build function, perhaps task a couple of engineers to them if they're not producing fast enough for you. You have a relative idea of where the enemy base is, so it is a good idea to see if you can't scout out their nuke silos or units. You can create a screen of SDM units around your base, but it can also be more cost effective to simply predict the flight path of the nukes, and move the SDMs accordingly.

maxwell this and what you said in another thread reminds me of wanting a mod that gives wheels to mexes or when a scathis shell lands it spawns 6 firebeetles + the normal damage. it isn't actually made yet though. just people coming up with strange ideas on aeolus (FAF's chat lobby).

Hrm... Have you considered pitching it to the moddb group? I dunno if anyone will pick it up because I've not seen a recently updated mod except, I think orbital wars. But hooray for mods XD

I don't know how to make mods (which is probably why I haven't made any), and the talk about T2 (and T3) mexes on wheels and firebeetle scathis shells wasn't exactly serious....

I dunno it'd still be kinda funny. Scathis unit cannon XD Design stolen and converted in the Noah unit cannon in sup com 2.

Thanks for all your feedback. The biggest issue I have incountere is that engineers are not able to add much to the building of missles process. They only consume -20 energy when assisting SMD missle construction and I really cant see that they speed up the process much. Also the silo consumes -1500 while building missles so your economy needs to be pretty healthy before starting. I have only managed to begin this by about 50mins in. However, Im getting better at building economy faster. Ive decided MF are essential early on but thats another topic all to gether.

that is because the build force of engineers is so low. one time on steam (I don't know on FAF because I haven't experienced anything like it) it took tons of engineers and sacus to be able to build nukes within 10 seconds.
